I lost $480,000.00 last night

Well, it really is more, however the amount atributed to my incompetence equals about 1/2 mil

There was this very special item, we did have 3 of them, a ultra-high pressure hydraulic pump.

Someone scrapped out the 3 pumps.

They or someone, failed to replenish stock of "working tools"

We were down an additonal 16 hrs minimum , 12 hrs is my fault because I could not find one.

Just during my shift, 12hrs, production on this one machine was a bit over $40 grand a hour.
Day shift looked for the item and did not find it.
He is a competent person.

12 hrs passed on my shift, many requests for this pump.

I no have pump I said, I've mashed my fingers looking throght the things already.

WRONG

Day shift arrives, someone from another area remembers where the spare is, OH NO !!

The worst thing is, I could have found it had I known that it was in the "inventory"

Tools are NOT in inventory, normally.

Also, I'd been through ALL of the parts for this pump the day before..
The missing item was hidden on TOP of the bin, out of sight.

This is NO excuse for me, minor details that a Non Inventory items WAS in stock, is NO excuse.
I should have searched under that irrevelant system anyway..

The Sheiat is gonna hit the fan come Monday.

bye bye cruel work place, at least the car wash is still hiring

Bummer. I've had similar things happen at other jobs ( fortunately not to the tune of half a million! )

We've all done stuff like this - perhaps not involving that much money - but at the time you were honestly convinced there was no pump, you weren't trying to cover anything up as such. Therefore let's hope your boss sees it this way too.

I agree with Skywalker! I really really really really really hate it when things aren't where they're supposed to be!! It's not your fault you couldn't find the tool, but it will be your fault because you couldn't "get the job done" anyway I don't like my coworkers sometimes

Wait a sec, Doc - let's look at the situation as you've outlined it:

Someone scrapped out the 3 pumps. WHY?? not your fault!

They or someone, failed to replenish stock of "working tools" not your fault!

Day shift looked for the item and did not find it.
He is a competent person.
So are you.

12 hrs passed on my shift, many requests for this pump.
I no have pump I said, I've mashed my fingers looking throght the things already.
Constant interruptions & irritation while you were attempting to find it

Day shift arrives, someone from another area remembers where the spare is, OH NO !! Where was he the previous day???

The worst thing is, I could have found it had I known that it was in the "inventory"
Tools are NOT in inventory, normally.
Variance from proper procedure?? not your fault!

Also, I'd been through ALL of the parts for this pump the day before..
The missing item was hidden on TOP of the bin, out of sight.
Improper storage. not your fault!

-----
Whole thing appears to have been caused by a large combination of errors - none of which you initiated!!!!
If it's at all feasable, I'd go in Monday - early - and start chewing on people before someone has a chance to start chewing YOU!

Sometimes the best defense really is a good offense!

Once when I worked our night shift, on a really busy spell, I did a major screw up - drove our truck to another building to get something, got in a hurry & "lost it" on gravel, smacked into a row of new cars. Ya know, Escorts on gravel slide sideways easy?? Domino effect! Wrecked one truck, three cars, nobody else within 200 feet...

My defense???
> Those guys were screaming they needed it NOW, I'm too busy for this crap - GET ME SOME HELP!!

> Who the @#$% parked those cars IN MY WAY???

> And just WHY is that lot still gravel?? You promised us blacktop FIVE YEARS ago!!!!

It worked!!

Whoa! Doc!
I'm with Ed on this one. Unless you want to get canned, I'd be raising cain about all the procedural deviations that led to this.

You didn't mis-stock those parts. But someone did. Don't make yourself the scapegoat, Doc.
