Lets see, I do not smoke, well I guess that is technically not true, I smoke sometimes when I am drinking. So that amounts to about 1 cig a month or so. Maybe 2. Do I think this has harmed my health in any way? No. Now do I think smoking two packs a day is bad for you? Yes. Does smoking maybe 10 cigs a day bad for you? eh. I mean breathing the air and drinking the water can kill you, so whats a few cigs

LOL! I knew what dat Fingers was doing!

Unfortunately, I can't make an informed vote, since I'm smoking about two packs a day, and I ain't talking about lil' wimpy Ultra Light "Am-I-smoking" type cigs....

That said, I would vote between #2 (Smoking only a few a day WILL NOT hurt you) and #3 ( Smoking only a few a day WILL harm you ). Meaning, I don't know for CERTAIN, and I don't believe anyone else can, either.

I know people (they're ALWAYS women) who can smoke half a pack while out for an evening, then give the rest of the pack away and not smoke again for WEEKS!! I do not believe they will suffer any adverse affects.

I really do think that it is the constancy of the habit that gives entry to the adverse effests...that is, if you smoke every day, you could be at risk. )

A teeny side note: When a hard-core smoker can go from 2 packs a day to 10 little "wussy" cigs, that is quite a WIN, Surreal. Congratulations! Keep it up...

Of course you know, the main train leaves the station Dec. 31, midnight, and we sure do welcome you on board...

Here's a something that may have been overlooked.

Smoking is an addiction. Like any other addiction, the chances of anyone quitting - and staying quit - depend entirely on how ready and willing and desirous one is to not smoke anymore. Then one has to make the decision.

You're just gonna have to be ready, Surreal. NO one can make you quit unless you want to.

I'm also a believer that the more negativity that smoking gets, the more it may help in turning your will over to making and keeping that decision to quit, eventually.

When I was smoking I used to HATE those freakin TV and radio commercials with a passion. But maybe they did some good in making me quit.

Money also factors in. It's like too freakin expensive to smoke now.

Sorry, surreal, I missed the point about Fingers beating up on you.

If it helps, I'll stomp with both size 9½'s. Obviously, I think even one cig is a bad idea, and you should give up entirely. For me, cold turkey was the only way that ever worked; but I recognize that one size doesn't fit all.

But seriously, Fingers, I think a poll about facts is a bad idea, and I think that one about opinions that's intended to put pressure on a single person, even for the best of reasons, is a bit beyond the pale. Especially for a moderator, don't you think?

Unfortunately, I have to second that. It really is true.

That's why I've been taking so long with the "Target Date", I'm really just psych-ing myself up to finally DO IT, and do it successfully.
