Outdoors A perfect example of..................................

how parents don't keep track of thier kid's lives and what they are doing while online. This is major upsetting to read. I am glad I know about it.

Childrens School Slam Sites.

This lady Margie Boule is a good columnist. She brings alot of attention to the local happenings around portland from drunk driver problems to school kids problems and others just plain ole good happy stories. She is one of my favorite columnist.

This is why I think its so imporant for parents to know what thier kids are up to. expecially online. I control alot of content with my kids and have hard time understanding why other parents don't. Granted many parents didn't know about this slam site as the story indicates and the site was shut down pretty quickly. Just goes to show that parents need to be more involved in thier childrens lives.

Good article. I think its a good idea to put in a software like NetNanny to prevent them going to inappropiate sites.

Nasty stuff.

Think I better check my squid logs again, just in case. Kids are on holidays now, so they'll be surfing a lot.

Hate for them to get entangled in this type of thing. Chat's bad enough.

Good jouirnalism, though.

Cheers
Mick

PS NetNanny won't necessarily prevent some of this stuff, as it won't stop email discussions. Some of these type of forums allow email contributions.

YEESH!

Those years were tough enough when I lived though 'em, tougher when my son did. I can hardly imagine what it's like for just a normal average, basically good kid to just survive the middle school/high school years and not come out of it horribly wounded in some way.

We can be involved, positive, supportive, all of those things, and I'm sure that the more of that we do, the better things can turn out, but, man! That's a vicious time and place and I wouldn't want to have to live through it again.

One way to have "some" control of the content that your kids view is by using one of several softwares.

Surf Monkey looks pretty decent to me->>

well, i turned out ok(i guess). my parents are very good ones. they never put net nanny etc. on my pc and i am fine. in my 17 1/2 years i have had a fair amount of freedom in all aspects and i have not been damaged as far as i know. i guess some kids are more susseptable(sp?) to bad stuff than i am. just my $.02

I agree here expecially even if a kid gets approval. Hey mom and dad! Schools kids got this forum were we can post can I have access persmissions. Sure Son: Parent gives access rights not bothering to read content and just sees the schools name and automatically assumes its okay. So off they go slamming.

Important to read content before giving access rights. and not only that is good for parents IMO to check in the site to see what is happening.

Its not like the old days anymore for our younguns. and that is a shame.
