Gas cover
Outside my house is a gas cover on the street the inner lid is raised above the street and the cover is totally pused in, basically there is a hole in the street. We called a couple people in the city on Sat and the DPW. This is Thurs, still a hole If you dont hear from me my house exploded
I don't get what the deal is someone could at least look at it I don't think it's safe. What do I pay taxes for |

Did you call the gas company? Do so and report you smell gas. They will be out there pretty quick. However they may shut your gas off to your house...

a hole in the middle of the street
they probably upened that up a bit for ventilation, but then again, why in the middle of the street?
They will only shut off your gas if you report in smelling gas in your property line. and if you do, prepare to spend over 200bux. It will cost you $200 go get a licensed plumber to come and get a permit from the city to fix what you have wrong, and for a city inspector to inspect and pass/fail the plumber's work. then there is what he does, that can get pricy, beacuse if you smell gas in your yard, you might have to replace the incoming gas line. But if you call a plumber and let him fix it, it won't cost that much.
as for that hole in your street. It's not a gas "pipe" but a shut off valve for your block. it just means that the City's Street crew needs to come by and patch up that part of the street.
See, if there was a major gas leak, they will just go to that spot on the street, cut the asphalt, and pop the lid to turn off the gas instead of having to dig, find the pipe, and use a pression vise which is used to sqeeze the gas pipe to shut off the gas (bet ya didn't know that the pipe for the city's gas was actually made out of a plastic mixture didn't ya? new homes have the same piping installed in them from the meter to the inside of the house)
It's nothing really, but if you do smell gas, which I know that you probably don't, call the gas company, and tell them that you smell gas coming from one of their shut off's in the street.
I'm sure that all they need to do is to patch up that spot on the street and that's it.

I'd call 911, or the police dept, and have them come down and have a look. They are obligated to respond to the call. If it is something that needs tending to, they will get the proper people in there
That's the only way to get anything done here

Actually the Police was who we called first. Thanks for info gjimene2. Personally I don't use gas, so i guess I shouldn't care, it's just the longer it takes the more P'd I get. It looks like a car hit it or something, the cover is pushed in. The hole is covered with snow now. Snow is another benefit of living in MA !!

| Around here it's just getting them to do it.they'll wait until they have to dig live animals out of thier nests in there before they fix the things around here
The PD seems to hurry the process up
