The TechIMO Mods---an appreciation

They are human. They have feelings.

It ain't easy being a Mod.

When a member gets tapped to be Moderator, they often have to give up quite a bit of their own freedom to be a happy jerk like me and often, have the unpleasant task of cutting up somebody's communication...even worse, having to BAN a person.

Try THAT on for size, friends. It is NOT an easy thing to do.

They don't get paid. The only compensation they recieve is the knowledge that they are helping at the site they love.

The TechIMO Mods are not "Authority Figures", they are people who selflessly give their time to help this place keep the character we identify with it, that we love!

I don't see the Mods as anything other than friends who help keep this place running smoothly...and often at personal sacrifice.

I think the majority of you don't need to hear this, because, like, you already know.

I write this for those who perhaps need to be reminded of the service that these (remarkable) people devote to this site.

'Nuff said.

I'd be a terrible Mod. No way, Jose!

If tapped, I would cringe away.

If elected, I would wander off in search of a "Whack-a-mole" game. So...no.

Oh, Vass, you're just not used to me being serious.

And yes, I knew posting this will get me labeled as a "butt kisser", well, so what? Anybody who wants to think that clearly doesn't know me. I don't care.

I am an artist: and I see TechIMO as one of the most astonishing creations I've ever seen. Especially in a media that I am actually hostile to: Computers. Believe it or not!

Sorry to go on about me, me, me. But there is some internal dissension going on now which really saddens me. And I just hate to see these co-creators getting slapped in the face for their efforts.

So that's what this is about.

Great post knot.

To do what these people do takes dedication, determination, and motivation.

When a mod is forced to play the ban card it is not a decision that I would want to make.
I do commend them on making them though. Some I do not know why, nor do I need to. some I do know why ( well brandon and wart) only because it became public. I support their judgement, because it is what is best for the board.

Keep up the great work mods your doing a elluva job.

Count me into the same catagory as yourself Knothead, because I totally agree with your post.

The Mod's do a thankless (until now) job, which pays nothing. They are asked to volunteer their time to help us keep our forum clean and positive.

I personally thank all the mods and Scott W for maintaining a wonderful forum where ideas can be exchanged without the foul language, abuse, and flaming that happens in other forums. I don't visit those forums because of this, I stick to TechIMO, XPC, and sometimes visit SysOpt.

But I consider this my digital home base.

I agree it's hard being in any position of "power". I have to do some of the discipline at work when people cross the line. It's VERY hard to give a coworker (sometimes friend) a written warning (that goes into their file) especially after you see them all the time and got to know them on a personal basis but....it's part of the job. If I don't do it, they'll walk all over me and the company rules...then I'll get a nice meeting with the boss and get a written warning of my own.

Folks here do an awesome job.

I don't normally respond to these type of posts but I thought that I'd share some info.

The people involved were members on this board for a long time and during that time they should have realized that some behaviour is not tollerated. I've been a member of TechIMO for over a year now and also I was a member of Sysopt for some time before the change..

I learnt that some behaviour is acceptable and some isn't. I guess it all comes down to respect. I have respect for all the members (with exception to a few) with helping other members and giving good advice. Most times I'm waaaay to slow everybody has posted my suggestion but most times we are lending a helping hand or giving a shoulder to cry on.

There are several (ok lots) members from different countries/different beliefs and we all seem to respect thier opinions/beliefs.

I always look at someone and think "How would I like to be treated if I was the other person?" After reading most of the posts in the other threads I can't see how someone would actively try to stir up negative feelings towards someone else.

It's bad enough that we can all put on or game face when we are new (who knows who you are talking to) but for members that have been here for a long period of time to take advantage of that is not right (IMO).

As for bannings I feel the mods and/or Scott is entitled to step in and lay the law down. It's not our personal form but a public form <- to help people in need. If you want to abuse that then here's the door and we'll refund your subscription fee (oh wait that's nothing).

I've been around long enough to see some of the bickering that goes on around here and would like it stopped. If you have a problem use the PM system. I would rather not see it posted for everone to see.

I'm probably going on and on about this subject but I feel that I've become a distant member of the family.

I've read all the Prayers Needed threads and didn't know what to add and I've seen all the What Should I Do? threads and didn't know what to say. I've read all the Help Me threads and didn't know what to add.

But this one I had to act.

I'm finished.

Jim
