New VW gets 239mpg

...competed the 230 km (143 mile) long journey. Its average speed was 75 km/h (46.6 mph) and the destination was therefore reached in only three hours. Of the contents of the fuel tank, which holds 6.5 liters (1.7 gallons), only 2.1 liters (.55 gallons) were found to have passed through the engine's fuel injection system.
I mean, they went extra slow to get that kind of mileage, but it can cruise a lot faster than that.

Very cool.

Cool. but the thing is a poke. If it tops out at 120kph I wonder what passing would be like.

What happens when a SUV like a yugo or a GEO smacks it?

How FAST do you need to go in a city? Now on the open road thats a different story.

I would be more interested in it if it was safe(as E mentioned above) and had enough room for me and family.

Interesting, and very high-tech; but all that magnesium is scary. If this thing ever caught fire, you couldn't put it out. It'd burn a hole right through the road.

Cadd, That's exactly what I was thinking, but it sure would teach the gawkers a lesson, with flashburn and all

As for the Tech, with a 1liter I hope you can start downhill, acceleration is a thing of the past.... The concept is great though, especially for those that stay in town and don't travel on any real highways (100kph/60MPH).

Come on answer that one.

You say that 50 is more then enough for in city. That depends on if it takes you 3 miles to achieve that speed.

I think you can actually park 2 of these in a regular parking lot.
