They are poisoned. Somewhere these people believe there are Americans who volunteer to go to foreign lands for little pay, poor treatment and grueling work just for the opportunity to kill other people. Now the way I figure it, if your goal was just to kill people, then joining a LA gang would be much quicker, involve less work and may even pay better.

Maybe when these peoples lives are threatened, they will respect the military for what they represent? Their freedom!

I myself have never experienced anything like that. I share the same sentiments as one of the repliers there, though: I'm proud to serve the freedom that allows them to express such opinions.

I thought our country was more enlightened/knowledgeable.
