OK I need some help here. My ten year old son wants a gaming console for Xmas so this is my question.

Which is better?

PS2.

XBox.

Sega.

Or something else.

I have no clue which one to get him so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated..........................

The PS2 probably would be your best bet. There is a large selection of games for younger kids and you can use the original Playstation games with it too. Plus it doubles as a DVD player so you can watch movies with it.

I would base my decision on what games he's asking for, and which console supports the majority of them and will most probably carry the type of games he wants to play in the future.

He has his own computer, It's a P3 1.2 gig. which he does use for some online gaming, But he wants to get a console just to play games at home with his friends. And he really really wants one..............

Hey it's Christmas and today I don't think there are to many kids who would be happy with an Erector set like I was. Unfortunately..........LOL

That's really too bad too, erector sets were the coolest IMO. Could be part of the reason I'm a mechanic.

I'd go top best buy or wal mart and take him with, tell him ya gotta get some junk, let him play all the consoles.Which eveer one he keeps talking about would be the one. That's the sneaky way I find out

I was always happy with the latest Lego set and a few matchbox/hotwheels cars (still have ALL that stuff too).

Yeah, check out that discussion....what YOU may think is logical, may not be what the kid likes...I think BC's tactic is the best, personally

The X-Box is really your only option. The others are just plain trash, and that is everyones opinion.....

Sorry about the sarcasim, but really it is a personal preference! People will swear by one or the other. Its all about how you like your console. So your mission is to find out what type HE likes! For starters you might take him to a local best buy and sportingly offer him to a match on one of the consoles. This will not only offer a chance for conversation about it, but you'll be able to see how he likes it by his comments about it as you guys play.

Price wise they are all about the same with the gamecube coming in a little cheaper though it won't play DVD's.

The PS2 does have more games, but then the X-Box's list of games is growing nicely, and it looks to have a bright future ahead of it! Right now it has a large selection of awesome games out already though! The gamecube has a pretty good selection too about like the X-box in size, but a very different type.

As for the feel. The X-Boxs feels like a PC! It's a lot of fun that way! Infact it really is a PC! I like that in it! The PS2 is more the conventional console! It does all the conventional console titles, and has a great following of great console titles like grand torismo. The GameCube is a Zelda type thing. Most of the games seem to be aimed at RPG's. It's not as powerfull as the others so it can't do the amazing effects, but its still pretty nice. Any way, hope this helps some!
