A government beaurocrat shot off her mouth in Europe last week and was overheard by a couple of reporters referring to Bush as a moron.

She resigned yesterday in a flurry of media attention. It's a big story up here, do any of the Americans reading this even know or care about it? It was on CNN as well I think.

Just curious, because it's all anyone is talking about this side of the 49th parallel. My favorite reply from the link above:

Not even an aide, but an underling of an aide says that Bush is a moron and CNN, grasps it in a fit of rampant nationalism and proceeds to rake America's closest ally over the coals.

Nixon, the frickin’ president of the United States publicly called Pierre Trudeau (the then Prime Minister of Canada) "DELETED" in a more public venue.

Americans are now crying over this? Why don't you look to your own house for rules of etiquette and breaches of protocol before you cry like 4 year olds over what was obviously a mistake by no one of consequence.

... and I thought it was Canadians who had the inferiority complex.

Regardless of who said the word, That kind of language is not allowed at TechIMO.

I got beaten in the head by the radio going on and on and on and on (ad nauseum) about it all the way in to work today.

I think Canadians wouldn't have much to talk about if they couldn't talk about what Americans think of them.

Just curious if the people south of the border even care about this ('cause they sure do here... ad nauseum)

Thanks Theo, I looked through the first page of Community and didn't see anything on it so I posted. TIMO's community forums change very quickly

Bush being a moron or not aside,

Is this news States side? Is this something people have heard of? I should have made this a poll...

Theo had posted some info. last week I think but nothing on the media.

If you consider page six of The New York Times as being "news Stateside", it did. But it's hardly prominent. The original story was buried in a piece about Bush's visit to Prague.

Most Americans know nothing about Canada except for its hockey teams. This story was all over Canada two years ago.

There is a popular show here where a comedian goes to the States and makes up completely untrue things about Canada and gets Americans to talk about them (because they don't know any better). It's called TALKING TO AMERICANS, and it's a riot...
