Personal space?
This question has me thinking... What exactly is your personal space?
I get "wierded out" and move away from people getting into mine.
My personal space is at least an arms length away (if not more). I feel uncomfortable if someone gets too close to me and starts to "loom" over me.
I really feel uneasy if anyone gets into my space... I will take a step (or two) back just to get away from them and it doesn't matter who it is male or female.
What is your personal space?
*edit* spelling

Just don't crowd my aura. Can't see it? Then your in it...BACK UP!
Mostly I just don't like when my kids start climbing on me when I'm doing my most important surfing at TechIMO.

Somebody did a study on "Personal Space" in elevators, and how carefully it is unconsciously observed (by normal, everyday folks) in such a tiny space. (I wish I could remember where I saw this, it's a fascinating read.)
If I may paraphrase their point, they said, basically, if you don't understand the concept (personal space) just get on a crowded elevator and watch how "weirded out" people just naturally get.
Here's something you can do: When somebody gets off the elevator at their floor, wait for the door to close, and then say to the rest of the people, "Ya know, I miss those guys already!"
See who laughs, or even smiles. Those will be the mutants you've been looking for! |

Arms legnth is about right I'd say, some people a lot more
I don't like things in my personal space either, I have to have room to move. I don't see how people can sit on a chair or couch, and have things piled up around them, that is just too much for me, I have to have it laying out, and somewhat organized.
Maybe I have tooclosetomeaphobia

Same thing with Urinals in public buildings. Open trough for the guys. One guy using it. Enter next person. Anyone want to place odds that he's gonna go stand next to the guy? Hell no, he's gonna find a spot that is his comfortable distance away from him. Now for the real test. Enter male #3. If male #1 and #2 are taking up the #1 and #3 spots in the trough, where will he stand to take care of business? #2 or #4?
Neither, he'll wait for one of the other two to finish.

When a female (that's not uber ultra nasty) gets close, I don't mind ....males - no way, arms length. I'm not a homophobe at all, I just....don't...want...guys...close to me...
As RedFury said, it's the same thing in the male potty room. If that situation presents itself, I would use a stall

Arms length is about right for me too, happens in the subway sometimes when I am waiting for the train, and some people decide to stand right next to me, even though the entire station is about empty of people. Always weirds me out and I always move away |
