Military Rank.. specifically Army

I'm looking for a site that has all the army rankings including insignia's (if thats the proper term ie. the silver oak leaf, "the bird" etc). I work around a bit of military and would like to be able to recognize rank by their symbols. I found one site, but all they had was the rankings and not the symbols associated with them. The 3 letter abbreviation for the rankings would be great too (last but least, the E3 O5 type rankings that are associated with each rank)

Anybody know a site for that?

Am I making any sense at all?!

Excellent find!!
Ok now I dont' think I've ever seen anything for "Warrant Officer" is there a reason for that or just dumb luck?

Is it still an active rank?

That page even defined what an NCO is ... was wondering that one as well

Warrant officers are usually specialists, like pilots or PAs. They usually don't have other duties besides their specialty. A captain may be a pilot, but he/she may also be the company XO. Warrants don't usually have a command position (other than aircraft commander).

The Air Force long ago removed the Warrant Officer ranks. The rank was viewed as being a reward for personnel who want to be super technicians and not leaders, where as Senior NCOs whose primary job is leadership would recieve less pay and codified respect.

It's been a long time since I've been in but I think they also were phasing out the Specialist4 ranks. They were trying to convert or promote them to sergeants to emphasize the leadership aspect.

Yeah, the Air Force did that as well. We removed the "buck" sergeat rank (E-4) about 10 years ago. Basically, they figured if someone is ready to be an NCO, they will pass the promotion test and earn Staff Sergeant (E-5). I still see Specialists and Corporals here on Fort Hood though.

Wow, you guys are bringing it all back to me! I'm half way home to total senility in my old age, but I do remember while I was in the Army finance corps, E1,2,3,4,5, and on up, etc., were simply "pay grades". When I left the service my final designation was, Specialist 5 (Spec 5), E5. Just check your 214's.

During the Vietnam era, all the Warrants I saw were copter pilots. WO1,2,3 to CWO (Chief Warrant Officer). These guys had the best of both worlds. They were, indeed, considered specialists!
