The Weatherbug

Anyone use The Weatherbug. Seems to be a good proggie. Constant weather monitoring, alerts, ect.

"WeatherBug is proud
to be part of the AWS
Homeland Security
Initiative."

Kind of a neat little proggie

Says Local and international weather forcasts

Hmmm. I may be a bit paranoid, but something that's part of the "Homeland Security Initiative" sounds a bit suspect to me.

Sounds neat except for the included ad/spyware as indicated in their terms of use:

"9. THIRD-PARTY SOFTWARE. Installation and use of any plug-ins or other third-party software are subject to the terms and conditions of any licenses distributed with or relating to such plug-ins or third-party software.

10. ADVERTISING. The Software is provided for your use, as described above, free of charge, and is supported by advertising revenue. Separate, "ad-free" versions of the Software are available for download by accredited schools for use on in-school computers and by all users by subscribing to WeatherBug Pro. The School WeatherBugTM will be customizable for individual schools, and be free of interactive banner advertisements, but may display static tiles from our Education Partners/Sponsors. To find out how to get a copy of the School Software, contact schools@WeatherBug.com."

hmmm dont sound like spyware, sounds more like banners on the GUI.

Third party could be other companies that allow you to install stuff to interact with the weather bug..
Dunno, could be wrong

It does display a banner at the top and bottom of the interface, not a problem to me though
I just figure they have to get paid to give it away, just like a website

I would be a little wary of the "Third-Party Software". It just may be included spyware. My wife dl'ed a proggy similar to this called Weather Cast. It had a hidden spyware proggy called "Save" which I discoverd when checking the running processes in XP.

I used to like Weatherbug! But for some reason, now it refuses to install through my firewall!!!! It seems to want additional permissions and more open ports. (Which I refused to do! )
