Talk about confusing work hours !

Normally I work 7-4:00 pm, Mon-Fri

2 weeks ago I started working nights from 7pm-7am

1 week later went to 5:30pm-4:00am

Friday started 3:30pm to 2:00 am

Today worked 3:30pm to 12:00 midnight.

Don't go in Sunday eve.

Monday eve go back to 5:30pm-4:00am

Reportedly in another week will go back to 7:00pm to 7:00am

Talk about terminal 'Jet Lag" ,, not only do I not know what day it is, I'm never sure if it's AM or PM, and haven't a clue what week it is

I had the same kind of scenario back in the early seventies when I drove a truck for a newspaper agency. They liked to rotate the help so that no one was stuck on the graveyard shift all the time. The difference was that everyday we had a different start time.
4am, 8am, 12 noon, 4pm and 8pm.
Man this will screw you up good after a while. I feel the pain......

Doc, I know exactly how you feel!!

I worked our night shift from '85 - '96.
It's literally taken me YEARS to adjust to days. Still have trouble getting to sleep "early".

Then last month, our two night guys got caught taking turns leaving early & clocking each other out. Investigation proved they'd been doing this daily for months. Both were fired - rightly so - and somebody had to take up the slack quickly.
Guess who!

8-5 one day, 3:30-2 AM the next, with no warning or time to "prep"!. Yeech!!

Two weeks of it, then back to "normal". Knowing it was short-term, & that I'd suffer badly if I reverted to night hours, I just didn't sleep much & kept getting up at 7...

That was two weeks ago now, and strangely enough, since then I'm finally waking up early & more alert in the morning that ever!

And the mess you've described is MUCH worse!!! There's NO WAY you can regulate yourself with that variation in hours, and I can't see how they can expect any productive work to get done...

doc.. I'm guessing mgmt knows you're not happy about this f'd up sleep schedule!?
That's awful
As Ed said, I don't see how they can expect a person to be productive under poor scheduling like that

Jman, I'm a "Parts Man" do Tool repair, give advice on certain procedures, the "easy" way to do things, alternative methods to "established" methods of machining, drilling and fitting of "interference-fit" parts.

No, Vass, I'm "Senior-Man" in the dept and choose this screwed up mess to make mucho overtime.

The promise at first was 12 hours, 7 days a week, this is what I like.

Changing shifts like this is NOT what I like.

Last winter, in the first 4 months of the year, I worked 99 days straight, 12 hr days, 7 days a week on Midnight shift, only had 3 off days in that time.

This helps the soon-coming retirement account

I hear ya about what day is it....

I never know when I'm going to work or what days I have off.
You never get a set schedule where I work.

But at least I'm going to work! That's much better than the alternative!
