This DVD will self-destruct in 36 hours...

CNN reports that the self destructing dvd has finally made its way into reality. Apparently it can be set to kill itself after ~36 hours...

Pretty amazing what they can do these days
I wonder how long it'll take for somebody to find a solution you can dip it in to negate that

I can see it used as demo's but if I buy a DVD it better never quit or I will be explosive.

MDS yes it is meant as a means for demos
In the article it says so, so you can get a taste of what you can purchase for the full version

Isn't M$ doing that already with some of their software for piracy control or something like that? Guess it's just dated for expiry!

I'm sure that destruct is meant file expiration, as in non-working.It better not explode in my DVD player ...lol

I knew it was only a matter of time

not that it's really going to matter to some people

Darn. I was hoping they would explode when time expires. Then if it's in your DVD drive, you can sue the company and get a new one!

Didnt Circuit City have a similar concept with the original DIVX format? I dont recall how the Disc expired but it had limited use and died quickly due to outraged consumers.

Plus the standard was proprietary.

I believe the new technology will suffer a similar demise.
