EastPort Portland Walmart on Strike.

Was going to the post office and saw all the walmart workers on strike. Not sure what this is about, I shop there all the time. cheap stuff. Have no idea what is going on tho. Was really suprised by it cuz haven't seen anything about it on the news.

I think today is first day for them. Didn't relize that walmart had a union of sorts.

edit: not sure if this is only store or if this is all over the place.

Well apparently it is the only walmart store on strike here. We got a quite a few walmarts and news didn't even see it as newsworthy as I was flipping through the both local news finally caught it. Dang near missed it because there were only like 3 sentenses spoken on the issue.

"walmart se eastport walmart is on strike, workers complain of not good enough benifits and wages are enough to make a living"

Thta was about it. I shorten it to one sentense.

I doubt it will last long.

So is just the one I so happen to shop at.

If this be the case, maybe you should boycott the store also. If the customers would stand with the employees, this would definetly send a message to Walmart management and help them gets a raise or whatever benefits they are on strike for.

Wal-Mart is not Union and will probally close the doors before they allow their employees to join one. The other day I was reading about how bad they treat their employees world wide. The meat packers joined a union then wal-mart decided to lay them all off, doing awaywith all meat packers at all stores just because one store had a group join the union.

Take a look at wal-marts store finder and see how many are near you, you may be suprised.

Well that is the interesting thing this particular walmart doesn't have a grocery center like the Super Walmarts. I think its because most of the people they hire at this particular are single moms and older people as well as retired people.

For something like this to start thier has to be a pretty strong ringleader to start something like this and not be a part of a union.

I think that walmart customer polocies really have gone downhill, as well as the general attitude of the people that work there since Sam Walton (founder) died.
I had the chance to meet and talk with him on a couple of occasions (we were building a car for him) and he was a real down to earth, nice guy.But once he died it's all been downhill IMO

Wal-mart is getting a very bad rep because of the way they treat their employees. If you look through the walmartwatch site you'll see all kinds of lawsuits and complaints. Some real interesting info on that site. I try to shop anywhere but wal-mart because of this even if it means I pay more.

The Wal-Mart Threat

"Wal-Mart doesn’t create jobs. It takes existing jobs, down-grades the pay and benefits for most of them, and destroys the rest— According to a study, for every 100 jobs at Wal-Mart 150 existing jobs in the community have been destroyed. "

Is the store at 4200 SE 82 ave the one your talking about? If so local 555 is behind this. Yesterday (the 21st) seemed to be some kind of national day of action against wal-mart.
