Headed to San Diego!

Hi everybody!

I am off to San Diego this weekend. Both sections of our flight in Navigator training are going on a cross country training exercise this weekend to San Diego. We land at North Island NAS tomorrow at noon and get to play in San Diego until Sunday at 6 AM (our return training flight).

Anyone have good spots to see and things to do in SD for 27 new USAF and USN officers?

Thanks
Dave

...I don't know about San Diego...but Tijuana is very, very close

Naw, seriously? Sea World is a blast and just about anywhere on the beach front there are a ton of great restaurants, bars etc. That city pretty much caters well to tourism, so I am sure even if you went unplanned you would find plenty to do.

LOL...just remembered...there is a Sea World in San Antonio...probably not much help... I like going to both of them though, the one out in SD has a lot more for "shows" and not as much rides like San Antonio (I am pretty much worn out on that one )

Eww, letting AF land at North Island? -jk-
Dave the Nuke Carrier John C. Stennis is in port so you may try to arrange a tour, or at least the Coronado Amphibious base(i.e. West Coast SEAL base). You can cruise the famous Coronado Hotel, Old Town, 4-5 beaches, The lighthouse and National Cemetary in Point Loma(2nd largest to Arlington). Maybe take a harbor cruise for 20 bucks. Or a 4-hour fishing boat. Check out the "Gaslamp District" at night also. Lots of entertainment spots. You can always tease the chimps at the Zoo. Ooh.. I got it! You like planes so go to the San Diego Aerospace Museum in Balboa Park. 15 minutes from the base over the Coronado Bridge. It's huge, the birthplace of Aviation, and a tribute to Charles Lindbergh. Has everything from a Wright Flyer replica to WWII to F-4 Vietnam Fighter Aces(Ever heard of Randall "Duke"Cunningham? to a simulated carrier ready room to Mercury/Gemini space capsules. Here.

Or.... there's TJ (Tijuana). *evil grin*

OOOH!! OOOH! DAVE!!

Go directly to Balboa Park, it's beautiful, they have museums and educational stuff...

YOU WILL LOVE IT!!

One of the best things about San Diego, IMO. They even have an aeronautical museum. How can you possibly resist?

Take my advice. Balboa Park. You'll be lovin' life, Buddy!
