It's funny how America's lamer news can shape opinion for you without even trying....they gave it about 30sec of coverage saying the spill was twice as big as the ExonValdez spill in '89....then they finished...because of the short time slot alocated to it, I'm like ok maybe they contained it and it's not a big deal....then common sense hit (finally). If it leaks out more, it will be an astronomical spill (that's a big if).
An oil slick 70 miles long and five miles wide was reported even before the ship split in two, Goodman said.

No. Before the rear end ruptures due to rust and corrosion, they'd have pumped out the oil.
Unless they can burn it using high teck lasers that burn oil underwater but then the fish'd get sick anyway from braething too much smoke.
I've heard that the cold and pressure down that deep makes the oil more of a solid than a liquid. This means that although the hold will eventually rupture (most likely because of the pressure instead of rusting through), the oil *may* just sit there on the bottom in one big clump. This is only a theory I've heard; I sincerely hope it's true.
Maybe if we all donated one garden hose...
