Kids New Laptop

http://www.sotecglobal.com/us/produc...00&prodid=1000

Just got it today after many weeks of diliberation. Got it at Sam's Club on a close out $ 1038 lpus tax and $139 for three year extended warranty ( after the manfr's first year warranty.

What I'd like to know is....What do I need to turn off in Win XP ??
Like administrative tools , etc. Haven't a clue about this OS. Is there a 'Tweak" website???? Start up files seem blotted compared to Win 98 SE.

Do I need more RAM??? Running 512 on my desktop.
What Microsoft programs can I get rid of??? Like MS messinger, Microsoft works, etc.

Thanks for any and all suggestings and help

the pickel

You can run MSCONFIG like in 98, just there's little there.

Two tabs to the left is "Services"

I'll have to drag mine out and see what I got rid of without disabling the TCP/IP

There's a linky here somewhere also to trim these units..

Will look, congrats on the lappy Just got my HP Lappy a couple of weeks ago, one thing I was glad to see work on it was the Intel Play Microscope I plan to capture bugs and small flowers etc with it..

Xeriod, john, and Doc , you guys have kept my printer hoppin'. Now to deseminate and plan my attack!!! I've read that XP loved to use up resources but had no idea. Will take it nice and easy as to not "overtweak" into disaster..LOL

Thanks again.

Here's the ultimate deal on a stick of 512 Kingston, $103.00

Dunno what proggys you plan to run, graphics intensive are one reason to blow another C note on more memory

I'm having to hold back for getting this for my HP Athlon 1.4

On the Memory deal, I read the RR reviews and am concerned, possibly some group is slamming the company for a single mistake, lack of Maxtor Hard drives.

Check my comments if anyone is considering this memory.
BTW, they list the availability as 11/17/02

Hey Doc!

I just received an email from Sotec concerning increasing shared video memory to 64 mb. This is why I wanted to increase the amount of RAM. Was planing on sticking another stick of 256, but for that price and when my wife gets her overtime check ( LOL ),
seems like it wouild be hard to pass up since Sotec wants $350 for the same thing. Thanks fer the link!!
Have fifteen days to return if I'm not satisfied or it breaks. Gonna give it work out. Set network settings ( I hope )..will plug it to hub directly and see how it surf the net.
Don't have a couple of bottles of that sweet Georgia Peach brandy laying around, do you??????
