There are tons of great wallpaper images at www.webshots.com. (Props to shahani for mentioning this site in another thread). The problem is they are in a proprietary format. Solution... Go here and get a utility to convert them to jpg. Not only that, but the utility site also has a nifty java applet to batch leech the images in high or low res right from webshots!

Guess I'm easily amused, or utterly bored, but I spent a good hour or two today building a nice collection. I was so amused that I thought I should share.

You can get 5 images free everyday. Excellent pictures but the image collection builds up fast. Mine is 400MB already.

Some months ago they allowed free downloads of entire collections (by theme) in an .exe format but now thats for paid users only.

Also available free is their wallpaper/screensaver manager which is pretty cool.

That's the other nice thing about the java applet. The downloads are unlimited. And you can queue up several at once. Just comma deliminate the file numbers from webshots in the field. Also, when you convert them the original long filename is restored so you don't have to rename them. And you can batch convert them.
