yea I've heard Make a wish is really good. I've heard that orgs like the United way don't put a high percentage of donations towards the actual purpose, but instead pay to have a lot of commercials. These commercials are usually with athletes (not sure if they get paid) and during high profile events like sports games. MAW I've heard does indeed put a higher percentage of the donations towards the actual cause
