I don't read it that way. Bush seems to have softened. The UN is a wimp. The whole Inspections crap will take months. This morning's paper quoted Powell as saying the Inspections may take a couple of months.

Dude's gonna be sitting on the pot a while unless GWB puts his money where his mouth is.

I figure that the inspectors will be denied access to a building within the first 20 days of their search.

I hope the wording is strong enough after the french got done with it. Basically I think denied access Should = inspection team exit and millitary goes in.

But why does Bush need the UN now that he has full backing in government?

I thought he was going to act unilaterlly?

Because it is politically correct.

It keeps people from saying the US went in unilaterlly.

And IMO it just looks better to the muslim world to know that the US is not simply acting on it's own. Not to the street urchin but to the governments and more rational folks which listen to more than muslim news sources.

Bush only said that he would act unilaterlly if he could not get the UN to act on it. The UN has acted now and we can proceed more easilly.

But will it still look good when the UN does not back one of his demands and he goes ahead unilaterlly?

Isn't it just a waste of time right now?

CM, your seemingly innocent and naive question is actually a bait to everyone.

But, I'll bite anyway to say what you want to hear.

Seems to me Bush has eased up a bit from his aggressive War Cries. He now realizes the full reprecussions of a full scale war in that part of the world without complete international support. The Europeans will never support him except England. Historically Europe has suffered a lot in wars and people are anti-war in France/Germany/Italy/......

The US has never really had a war on its own soil. People here tend to be insulated except the soldiers.

But Bush is slowly realizing that a war may plunge the whole world into a conflict no one really wants. I'm not saying he is back tracking. Just easing up a bit.

Maybe his Dad or advisors reined him in. Or his wife. Who knows. But with the Legislative firmly behind him, he can do waht he wants. Question is what is he willing to risk to take out Saddam Hussain.

Tough call for him.

But I thought the longer he waits the more nuclear weapons Iraq can build, deploy and use?
