What is wrong with securing the borders?

What would be wrong with having a border that was patrolled by the US millitary 400 yard mine field between to 20 foot razor wire covered fences. Perhaps a guard tower every few miles with sensors to detect breaches. Maybe there should be no mines but I think they give the barrier the required punch to insure no one tries to breach it.

I think that we should do something like this so that the only point of entry to the USA is through the controll points.

Both on the north and south side borders.

What freedom would be lost?

Soviet countries did not build their fences to restrict access to their countries as much as to restrict exit of citizens.

A mine field does not get corrupted and right now there is no bribery because people can simply walk in. You do not even have scruples as a barrier to the country.

Freedom to come and go when you want- just drive across not be subjected to long lines at crossings.

Soviet did both- entry and exit barriers. Both high.

Mine field is one barrier- I'm talking of corrupt guards letting in fine Columbian MJ and duty free cigarettes.

The simplest reason possible.

The people who are hurt by our country can SUE the government.

How would you like having a dozen people trying to get into the USA and being injured by your methods, then sueing us for the damages?? What, you think that a 30 Trillion national debt isnt enough of a challenge?? You want to make everyone who wants to come to america and gets hurt millionaires TOO??

Not to mention 99.999% of the people trying to come here are innocent people looking for a better life for themselves HERE, IN OUR NATION!
people who PERSECUTED, tortured, ETC. . .

Quote "MOST OF TODAY’S huddled masses come not from southern and Eastern Europe as they did in Ellis Island’s heyday, but from Latin America, Asia the Caribbean and Africa. The U.S. is in the middle of an immigration wave that rivals the one that began the 20th century. In 2000, 10.4 percent of the U.S. population was foreign-born, up from 4.7 percent in 1970. Some 26 million people have come to the United States since 1970, nearly a third of all the immigrants in the nation’s history, according to the Census Bureau."

From here: http://www.msnbc.com/news/755837.asp

And by the way how much do you think it will cost for your plan to be implemented?? 6 BILLION?? 10 BILLION?? I know I DONT WANT TO PAY THAT!!

The columbian gold would be restricted to a few points of access in stead of complete free access.

It is illegal to drive across anywhere you desire hence it would be a freedom as it already exists.

If the lines are too long you open more crossing controll points. As you may have noticed at DMV in NJ that the freedom to not stand in line is not enforced.

You can not sue if someone breaches a secured area. The use of electric fences and razor wire have been used many times before without challenge. The fences are used to keep people out of the restricted area and the mines / or even sensors (to be nice) would trip deploying a rapid response team in helicopters. deployed every 5 to 10 minutes along the border.

Either way would work but the mines would make the barrier much more effective.

As for the poor and huddled masses of the world. The US is a finite resource. Lets talk about the extreme. What if we simply let everyone who wanted to come to the USA. Next year lets say, and for sake of argument lets say that there are a conservative 400,000,000 people who would desire to do so. What would happen to the economy if 75% of these folks did not speak english and had no job skills.

Now lets say that we simply allow such a huge number of people into the country outnumbering americans 2 to 1 what would happen to the america's culture. Would america be america anylonger.

I have no problem with imigration. I think it is required for america to have new blood. But right now we have unrestricted imigration. I say close the open border and allow only legal imigrants in. If we find that we do not have enough unskilled labor then we simply adjust the annual quota's . But to allow an increase of more than 1% of the population to simply walk in to the US and tax the California school system, and for the ones who can not make a living tax our welfare system is rediculous.

Would such a measure be a good thing for gun manufacturers or a bad thing?

I can't figgur out. Both answers seem likely.

I agree on the NJ DMV point.

Nah we have enough guns right now.

Now the ammo manufacture will go through the roof.

and the manufacture of 20 or 30 million mines would help industry.

I thought mines were illegal to manufacture anymore except in some lousy countries like Iraq and Doha.

Thanx for the tip on ammo companies stock.

I think, overall, the illegals do jobs the legals don't - viz. clean airport bathrooms, dig trenches for phone companies in the winter, drive garbage trucks, climb electric poles on a cold winter nite when the wind howls, and other such unskilled, dangerous, and lowly paid work.

They don't do computer programming, web design, practice dentistry or become lawyers. So, from a 50,000 foot view, they clear up the s@#$ you and I make.

So what's wrong with that. They play a role in keeping the legals confortable and snug as a bug in a rug.

PS- On a personal note, you know how I can make my icon yellow in color? Looks kinda bland.
