Who your friends are
hmmm, interesintg...just saw on CNN that Saudi Arabia has denied us use of their territory if an attack against Iraq was to take place. Kuwait, on the other hand, would allow us. I had assumed this was the case, yet hadn't heard it was fact until now.

Yep...remember the first dust-up '91, where France denied us airspace, and those USAF pilots had to fly an extra 6500 air miles to get close to Hussein?
I had heard we had... accidentally... dropped a bomb on the French Embassy there. I am sure those pilots' aim would have been more accurate if they had been able to get a little more sleep!
Ah yes...perhaps our Saudi buddies will remember that story, but maybe not... WOOOPS!! hehehehee |

Well we are planning on bombing another Middle Eastern country which Saudi Arabia obviously doesn't want us to do. Now I know what you guys are going to say when I say this, but the U.S. government needs to suck up to Saudi Arabia as much as possible. Having them let us use their bases would be a nice thing. |

What are they gonna do? Not sell us oil? Great. Let's see one of those Saudi Kings go down to his Rolls Royce dealship with a barrel of oil and see how far he gets. They need/want our cash just as much as we need/want their oil. We certainly do NOT need to suck up to them.
I'm all in favor of us getting a lot more of our oil through Russia. They got lots for sale. And they can probably use the money more.
And if we needed to we could just shoot all our wacko environmentalist and then get our own oil up in Alaska.

I said it before and I'll say it again. Of all the Mid East kingdoms, none is as sneeky and two-faced as Saudi Arabia. The Royal family can only think of its enduring survival- which may not happen if there is an Islamic uprising in Saudi Arabia should the family support the US. Secondly, we must never forget that an Islamic state will never openly support any action against another Islamic State. Of course, in fairness it must be said that neither will the Jews here come out against Israel, or the Hindus in India against their own religion, or any religious Group, anywhere, condemn against their own kind. Of course, there are exceptions like the KKK but they are an exception.
It would be extremely imprudent to even expect Kuwait to support this effort. Already they are having second thoughts from what I see on CNN/FOX.
The few non-entities like Doha may offer support, knowing fully well that it may never be asked for in the first place.
But you want cunningness and palace intrigue, go to Saudi Arabia.

Shahani, you and I are in total and complete agreement on this one. Although you left out ARROGANCE.
Sneaky, and two-faced is putting it politely. I have had dealings with people from that region, and the results were absolutely appalling!
I cannot figure it out: Is it the culture? Or is it THEIR FREAKIN' DNA???
And I'm a guy who doesn't like to classify people according to nationality...but WHAT IS IT with these guys?? |
