I Hate Rap

I don't know maybe it's just me but here in Philly, all you hear all day is rap being blasted on crappy sound systems all day and night. On BET the rap videos are just retarted. I have yet to find ONE rap video that didn't include one of the following:

Oversized "bling bling" Chrome wheels
A Cadillac Escalade
Scantily clad bimbos
"Capping" rival "artists"
Gold/silver teeth

It seems if you just swear and scream to low frequency garbage, you'll make a hit Rap CD. Musically, rap is so simple. Ever wonder what a rap instrumental would sound like? You'd get tired of it after 7 seconds. Even something like Commodore64 music is about 10 times more complex than rap. It's sad to think about how this stuff sells.

actually all music is simple when you think about it. Take away the music and you have just words that either rhyme or they don't. Kinda like poetry. However, I think music is one of the best things there are. Do I like rap, yes, I do. But I also like classical, some country, rock, new age, Christain, etc.

Well said, Erik. There's bad rap music just like there's bad Rock, or bad Jazz or bad country.

But then there's some real good Rap too.

Guess it's like wine. Gotta develop a taste for Rap. Or you think its noise.

What I mean about rap is take away the lyrics and you have nothing.

dunno.. there's some weird folks out there that can literally sit there and just listen to bass
Dunno, I don't get it

... not to mention the lyrics usually don't amount to much either hahah

No rap for me.

The lyrics are not musical IMO there is just no mellody.

Of course this is to say the more hard core raps. I have heard
some of the newer stuff and it appears that some of the artists have put some art back in it.

I do not like the pure base thump thump thump of the spitting artist. The hard core stuff is an example of all that is wrong in society. No respect for women or authority, bad a$$ macho BS, praising drugs, praising crime that is not what I would let my kid listen to. Bad ju ju!!

Some of the more mainstream stuff is not to bad but still most of it does not sound terribly melodical.

I consider art something that sets people apart from others in skills. If you can do something that others can not then that is part of the art formula. too many people can rap therefore it is not a skillset.

I don't have anything against Rap. Some people like bass, why can't you guys just let them be? There are skilled rappers and obviously unskilled rappers.
Well of course they sing about stuff like that, because THAT is what the PUBLIC wants to hear.
Just like why do you think all those lame boy bands sing about heartbreak and girls?

Throw them back in and the situation is usually still unimproved. But evidently there is a big market of morons supporting these "artists" whose claim to fame is vulgar language, cheap sex, conspicuous wealth, violent behavior, and selfish disregard for the world at large.
