Sociology 101

A few weeks ago my wife and I decided that I would stay home with our daughters so that she could go back to work after maternity leave (she makes almost double what I made). The first question I get at playgroup is "Did you get laid off?" It is very interesting to see how people assume that a man taking care of his children is not unemployed by choice.

Also, where do you have to go to find a diaper changing station in a men's room?

I believe you're looking for the Unisex rooms
Actually I've seen more these days than in the past, I believe some wal mart or maybe Target has them.

I agree .... 'the male role' to be at the job and the 'female role' to take care of the kids, this idealogy is quite outdated

I know this won't answer your question but it brought up an interesting memory, one that shocked me at first.

Was at college one day oh about 2 or 3 weeks ago, the womens bathrooms are deisgned with two rooms, the first room you walk into has a corner L shape bench iwth a big square table next to it and then the two walls have mirrors. (why do they need those? Anyhow you have to go past this entry after the second room to use the toliets. Well i walked in one day to the first room to go to the second room and in the first room there was this guy changing his daughters diapers in the first room of the womens bathroom. Was quit funny the guy was blushing a few shades dark red and was hurry fast to change his daughters diapers, none of us minded because he was in the first room so didn't bother none of us.

Altho I know this doesn't and probably won't work for you. Altho I do have another suggestion.

Is there a particular place you frequent often that you wished there were diaper table in that bathroom? You might be able to preswade the management to install a diaper changing table in that bathroom alternativaely you can use a nice big soft bath towel folded up on floor to change your childrens diaper. I have doen that many times myself.

So far it has been easier to go out to the SUV and change the diaper in the back. I haven't had to use the floor, yet, but I did use two chairs in an empty restaurant. I haven't been at this long enough to complain to any management. I will probably just patronize the places that I find to be more family friendly.

My next big hurdle is taking my potty trained two-year old daughter into an occupied men's room. So far, whenever she has had to go the men's rooms have been empty. I can just imagine the comments she will be making. To paraphrase, I guess what doens't embarass us to death just makes us stronger.
