At Home Atheist Boy Scout

Here is the story.

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...yscout29m.html

I am an Eagle Scout myself. My opinion is that the BSA is a private organization. If someone does not like the rules, then they do not have to join. This is just a bad situation for the kid. However, the scout oath and the scout law both have references to God. You say both of those every week in meeting. The kid should have said something before now.

What do you think?

If he were a gay atheist they'd probably lynch him. I think the scouts need to lighten up.

The Army oath I took had God in it...we had the choice to say it or not...I don't see why they can't do the same thing with the BSA, for those sensitive types out there

Judging from his experience and level of activity it's their loss not his.

The Scouts exclude atheists and gays.
This is not about an oath, this is about atheists and gays not being allowed to join. It's discrimination.

Not in private organisations Barney, otherwise they would be known as public organisations.

Public or private, it's still discrimination.

Maybe I'm discriminating, but the thought of gay scout leaders scares me.

Whats the point of being 'private' if an organisation has to accept any and all applicants?

The atheists and gays should make their own organisations, then they can pick and choose or discriminate against anyone they like.

When a private university or school sets requirements for applicants, do people all whine and call it discrimination?

TechIMO doesn't have to accept all people that sign up ,either. So you're saying you wouldn't feel discriminated if they banned you for being Muslim?
