I don't mean to laugh Surreal, but it's SO TRUE....you don't know how much stuff you've got until it's time to move it!

I suggest you start at the end and work backwards...like the stuff you use the most (kitchen) would be the last thing to pack. What's the stuff you use the least? Bedroom stuff? Do the bedroom first, then.

If you go by rooms, you'll have a sense of order, you'll work efficiently, and you won't be overwhelmed!

BTW, that avatar is just SO SURREAL!!

I find every time I move (I have moved 4 times in two years) that I end up throwing awya half of what I packed up. I mean I can be a packrat and it helps me when I move to look at what I have and really ask myself if I will ever use it again

TIP: Go get UNPRINTED newspaper from a local packing company to pack dishes/breakables. When you unpack, you won't have to scrub to get the !@#&$ black ink off!!

Normally the basement was the hardest thing for us to pack up. Especially leaving Michigan because we don't have a basement in Cali.
Talk about a waste of a move. The house size shrunk by 2 times and no basement here. You couldn't begin to imagine how much stuff we had to throw away.

Yep I know what you mean Mike, that's why I intend on throwing it away before I move it!

My secret:

Only move 10 miles away. That way you can make as many trips as you need to move every single useless thing you (or your spouse ) has ever collected or saved.

If you haven't used something for 6 months, throw it away.

Period.

Gotta be ruthless.

Didn't use it for 6 months you'll never use it.

Just my $5 worth.

(Don't include installation CDs and such for obvious reasons.)

The first time I moved, I got it all in the back of my Pickup.

The last time 4 1/2 years later, it took me a week.

How do you collect that much stuff in so little a time??

I use the opposite approach as kothead. The most used stuff first, as it's prolly the most important, working to the least.

Here's an outline
Computers>Home theater system>music gear>garage>kitchen>throw the rest in where ya can

Really is no good way I guess
