Chopping Wood

I love having wood fires. I have 2 very large trees in the front that are just cut up into pieces. Been there 1/2 yr. Weel seasoned but having trouble trying to get em split into firewood. I was quoted the same price as buying the wood.

This tool looks real good. Do y'all think it's worth the money? Do you think this tool will work as good as it says?

here's the Woodwiz site, it's under $100.

I am not trying to advertise this product, but if the mods wanna remove this thread, I have no problem with that.

ps. Van Morrison's newer song called "Choppin' Wood" is one of my favorites!!!

I just use a wedge and sledge. Maybe not as fancy, but quite a lot cheaper.

I've seen that gadget mentioned before, perhaps in an old Whole Earth Catalog. But I can't remember it being reviewed.

If you have hardwood, I can't imagine it splitting that easily!

Here's an idea... Have a wood splitting party.

Go to one of those places where you can rent tools and equipment and get a REAL log splitter! Have everyone pitch in and use it.. You'll have fun, see friends and family and be warm this winter thinking of the day almost everytime you fire up the fireplace

I would guess that the energy that is transferred by sliding that collar would be much less than one swing of a 5 pound sledge.

I would need to see it in action before rendering a decision. Like how tired you are after a coord oak is split. You will no doubt have to do an awful lot of strokes per coord. It may or may not be a labor saving device. Probably works better for someone who can not swing a sledge or splitting maul.

As they say, wood heats you twice; once when you split it, then again when you burn it.

Man imagine the blood blister you will get if you pinch your palm under that thing. I hope they have a warning label on it to save the people who do not know not to rest it on their bare feet with the slide up. I can see alot of lawsuits coming out of this.

If it were me , I would do as mentioned above and just rent a splitter for a day. A little Briggs and Stratton motor , a hydraulic ram, no muss no fuss. Pow youre done.

Use a real splitting maul, that thing won't give you any leverage. With a stong swinger, a maul can split brittle wood in a single blow, that thing would still take many many hits.

Don't chop wood. But Knothead knows a lot about this. Should be here presently.

My 9lb maul will go through most any hardwood in three swings, if not the first. Put your back in to it!!

The hydraulic ram splitters are great for people who can't swing an axe though. My question is that if they can't swing an axe, how do they pick up the pieces that are that big in the first place?!?
