Got notn better to do so.... my ma is actually considering gettin my 9yo brother a pocketknife for his 10th Bday!? I've never seen a 9yo w/ one and frankly I think she is out of her gourd. My ten year old son wants my little Swiss knife that I keep in my pocket for oddball things, It only has about an 1½ blade but I also say no!

Perhaps times have changed, but I'm sure I was carrying one by at least 10. I always carried one with me throughout middle and high school. Amazingly, it never jumped out of my pocket and stabbed anyone either....

My point is that there are many things that children can use to harm themselves and others with.... if they're so inclined...

I had one when I was eight, but I'm a pretty non-violent guy (now). Certainly I never threatened anyone with it, even though I was getting beaten up all the time.

Sure. I had one when I was 8, (like TKOP, Boy Scouts) and I never stabbed anybody with it!

A sharpened screwdriver gives a much more satifactry result.

Sure, I had one at that age. As a general rule yes, although I guess it comes down to a per child basis.

I remember using one and now that I think about it I wouldn't give one to a kid that age unless he's in boy scouts or is always supervised with it.
