Gaming Reperations

I think it's time we start demanding reperations.

Since the 911 hijackers were Saudis we should demand reperations from the Saudi government regardless of whether the Saudis officially "funded" this operation. If they won't pay up, we slap huge economic sanctions on their trade.

If a foreign terrorist comes to the USA and commits mayhem, we should demand reperations from their home country. Let's put some pressure on these governments to keep some watch on their own people, instead of us trying to do it all at the US border or at the boarding gate.

Sounds kinda demanding...we need Saudi support if we are going to go to war with Iraq.

It's like saying to your friend, Jimmy, help with my math homework or else...*fingers handgun strapped to hip*

dunno...just doesn't seem totally right to me. If there was an American terrorist (go figure) who blew up mucho Saudi civilians and property, I'm willing to wager that nobody here would feel good about paying reparations to the Saudi gov.
*shrugs*

Does that apply to all the USA, UK etc. mercenaries involved in all their "good works" around the world?

Wont wash.

It applies to whomever we can enforce it against. BTW, mercenaries implies people engaged in a military action.
Not the same as terrorists at all.

Cadd, I know very well the meaning of the word mercenary.
Many terrorist organisations consider themselves to be in a war, holy or otherwise, and train their "soldiers" accordingly.
A nation cannot be held responsible for the actions of individual citizens.

But it can if it is aware of, and ignores (therefore condoning) their actions.

Do you think I deserve reparations from the slaves my forefathers freed? Or from the French my grandfather freed during WWI? Or the people of the Pacific rim my father helped liberate during WW II? I mean, this reparation thing has gotten out of hand.

Well, GWB is asking that the $1 trillion suit against Saudi Arabian Sheikhs be withdrawn.
