Kids Another movie ID question

There was a movie I saw a while back that was old but pretty intresting. It was about some kid who built a nuclear bomb. At the very end, the government tries to kill the kid, but somehow the bomb activates and they have something like 5 minutes to stop it. They have to cut the wires to do so. Of ciourse, they do stop it.

It's been nagging at me for the longest time. WHAT IS THIS MOVIE? Please help me, I must know!

Yes, that's the movie. The one with the clear cased bomb.

I'll see what IMDB has to say about 'The Manhattan Project'.

It was.

It had John Lithgow (considerably thinner) and Cynthia Nixon (much blonder) in it too.

That was a sweet movie. I particularly like the look on the guy's face when he runs a test of the canister and discovers that the plutonium gel has turned into prell.

Heh, I was about 15 when I rented that movie. It just got over and my mom turned to me and says "DON'T get any ideas!" Can you tell what kind of kid I was/still am?
