Always think "Is this a safe way to do this?" - I didn't today
Preparing the shop where I work today for Christmas (yeah I know it's only October) and I was busy putting up a paper frieze on the wall just below the ceiling, the height of the wall being a good 12 feet.
All was going well, using the new tall stepladder, and being careful because of the height.
I was finishing for lunch and the last piece of frieze was up but not right, it was in a corner which was awkward to get to the first time.
Hmm, I think I'll just fold the steps up and rest them against the wall display, hmm the steps look quite stable there too.
Climb up them to about 6 feet up and start to adjust the frieze. Next thing the ladder slips and I'm tumbling to the hard floor. Fortunately I sort of twisted around as I fell and went down with my back on the ladder, this protected me, I'm sure, from more serious injury. As it was I grazed my arm and twisted my ankle but it could have been much more than that.
The point of telling you this is never to think something will 'be all right' when it affects your safety.
I am still thinking to myself how more serious this could've been.

Ouch! The worst part about doing something like that is thinking how stupid it was after you do it.

As we say in Jersey, find a good lawyer and SUE THEIR PANTS OFF!
Actually, a lesson best learned from the experience of others. Thanks for the tip.

As for suing, I haven't got a leg to stand on, if you pardon the pun, it was my own stupid fault for using the stepladder incorrectly.
As a footnote, when my boss was told about it, he asked whether I was OK then quickly asked whether I'd be able to finish the job this week. I still have the other floor to do!!

no way!! you can still sue! lol
The ladder shouldn't lean against a wall without crumbling into a small pile of dust in the corner lol
Glad you're ok jonty... as I usually say.. sometimes ya gotta hit your head on the wall a few times before you realize... damnit that hurt lol
Point is, sometimes ya just gotta make the mistake to realize ... well that was just stupid LOL

Great thread draboo, it seems there's quite a few of us in the 'That was a stupid thing to do, I hope you've learnt your lesson' club.
Perhaps we should start our own forum, lol, I'm sure there'll be plenty of members!

| HUH ?
You Can't say THAT in Joisey--That's a New York saying !
If you try and say, we'll sue your pants, your skirt, and the money in them too! Ever hear of 'Theft of Saying' ? We got Lawyers who specialize in that.
And we won't stop there. What New Yorker wants to dress like a Joiseyan, anyhow ?
A DOOOOG NAMED SUE
P.S. Glad to hear you're OK, Jonty. |
