Do your homework...Or else

Read this story about a mothers punishment on her school work shirking son:

And then you will understand my response:

Police found the middle school student crying at the intersection of Main and Green streets with the sign. His mother and several other kids were in a nearby van.
How could the mother do that? sitting in the van with a group of kids, no doubt his peers as he sat and cried? I mean fair enough if she didnt realise what effect it was having on him but sitting across the intersection watchign is a diferent story.

I am ok with it due to the fact that the mother was accross the street. If she was off some where else having a coffee or something then I would worry about it. The mother was watching the child. Beeep Beeep Beeep.... hope my mom dosnt see this... I will be the next one out there

Yes that point is true, although why with a bunch of other kids? Thats kinda like your friends tying you up naked to a pole on your bucks night and inviting your family to come have a look.

Perhaps the other kids were siblings?

How do you spell emotional abuse?

Where I come from, the kid would be in protective custody right now.

It's not his fault he didn't do his homework. I am sure the stars were not aligned properly or maybe his inner child left him and he just doesn't have the inner voice to do his homework. Or maybe his mother decided that if the kid is shamed maybe he will learn the value of working. Emotional abuse? No this would be character building and apparently the kid needed a lot of construction. Not doing homework now is an indication that he will be worthless or a poor performer to society later and tax payers will be supporting him when he is an adult.

You obviously don't understand kids too well. That mother was way off base in doing that. Emotional abuse? Absolutely. No mother has any business trying to shame her child into doing his homework by making a public display out of him. She needs to find out why he's not doing his homework. Then she needs to help him overcome whatever it is that's holding him back. It definitely doesn't sound like the kid was just being stubborn and rebelious. There's more than meets the eye.
