Yard Farming!!

I went to Joplin today to watch my son Bowl in the Special Olympics, he got a silver meal in his division
Anyway, it's drizzling rain,I'm just about home, and on the highway, foot on the brake, slowly rolling, as opposed to stopped, turn signal on, waiting for traffic, so I could make a left hand turn.
I always look in the mirrors, out of habit, and I see this Surburban coming.
*SQUUEEAAAAL*
The thing sliding to a stop, sideways in the road, the ladies face frozen in fear, cellphone firmly planted against her face
Mind you I have been waiting for traffic for a minute or two.
Seeing that she's not going to stop in time, I floor my van,and get out of the way.
Too late for her, she had lost all reaction, and instead of letting off the brake, and trying to regain control, off the road, down a small grade, and took down a fence post Yard Farming
I went around to see if she was OK, and she had driven out of the fence row, back to the road, and was talking to the man that owned the property.Assured me she was alright, and I came home.

My guess is had she not been on the phone, the whole thing would not have happened. She was distracted, and overreacted to the situation.Result...Yard Farming!
Don't talk on the phone and drive, PLEASE!!

WOW! Im sure you can imagine how much worse this situation could have become---cell phone use has been confirmed deadly while driving and states are taking measures to eliminate that possibility...

She was lucky---you were luckier...

Here she would have taken out half a dozen cars and who knows how many innocents...

For a couple of months I've been considering a Tee Shirt with something like;

Ban Moving
Cell Usage

I see people all the time with a dazed look on the face doing stupid stuff like going 70 through a 45mph school zone. That really gets me going..

That is horrible, I see so many morons driving on the roads while having a phone planted in one ear. That gets to me, I think that either headsets need to be mandatory or no phone and driving at same time allowed.

Thing I notice alot is cell phone drivers tend NOT to use blinkers, probably cuz they don't know how to turn on the blinkers while yaking away. Other things I noticed they are whizzing by to fast or they are driving pathtically slow and slowing up traffice.

My favorite bumper sticker I seen is Hang up and drive.

Those same morons also read the paper, fix their hair, apply makeup and flip through their cd collection while driving...

First off, I'd like to say I'm happy that you and you're family are OK.

I think it's poetic that people these days don't contemplate on what they do on the road. Honestly I've see so many people get in minor and BIG car crashes around my school, and what do you think they were doing? Yes! TALKING ON THE FREAKIN' CELL PHONE! I mean, talking on the cell phone and driving for like 2-3 mins or so is OK, it's not really enough time to get into the conversation and forget what you're doing(DRIVING) and do something by not having you're full attention.

Considering the age group(around here, and what I've observed) is either a young age 16-22 or so and 'Soccer moms' and some others. I can say I will never talk on the cell phone OR do anything that would distract me so much that I'd not have 100% attention on the weel. It seems like the number of accidents are increasing to the rate of drunk driving I realize it's not THAT close, but it is increasing as this age of day is getting more "TECH-SAVY" everyone is getting a cell phone and, sadly abusing it in the car. The car for me is a place to go when I want to think about stuff, because I'm usually all alone, and I can think about stuff more as I'm driving. Now when I look at DVD players and PS2's in a car, I can't help but burst out in laughter. It's poetic what they are doing these days to sell a car, I think.

Cell phones are for emergencies, not to ask what you're friend's friend did on her date a week ago!

And BTW, congrats on you're son, I bet he was extreamly happy to win a metal, I know I would =P.

My story for the day... I guess it shows how much of an ass I can be.

Driving home on the interstate right lane doing bout 78MPH. Just cruising, not darting in and out etc. Lots of turn signals and people changing to the left lane ahead I figured maybe someone was pulled over or something so I put my signal on, see there are school busses ahead doing 55... look, check mirrors... there is a lady coming behind me doing prolly 79 MPH, 2 MPH or so faster then me tops... and a whole train of semis and cars passing these busses. I have about a car length when I put my signal on.. let it blink a few times before I start to change. She seems to care not that my signal is on and there is room there so I put my car in it.

She gets all irate and motions at me, all I do is shake my head and she flicks me off. So I smiled and waved at her and then proceeded to drive alongside the busses at 55 MPH for a couple miles... well another guy got hung up behind her, so I passed the busses, he snuck past on the right before I came to a semi which I drove alongside for a few miles... finally my exit showed up so I passed the semi and went on home. She flicked me off again as she went by.

I don't mind that she wasn't courteous when I tried to change lanes... and it's not like she wasn't going to have to slow down when she hit that slug of traffic. But flicking me off ticked me off...

that's my story for the day. I hate when people chat it up on the phone as well!
