The Number System??
i have always wonderd about numbers.
there is 100, 1000, one million, billion, trillion, quadrillion(i think)
after that, what is next? how far does it go? i know that there is a really big number called googooplex or something like that, but thats all i know.
also, on a side note, is "zillion" a real number or just something that people say?
just being curious again,
drew

Hmmm I don't know how they "labeled" them, then again how did we label blue as blue, red as red, green as green, shoes as shoes, pants as pants.
I once wrote a piece years ago and part of it was stating, how do we really know blue is really blue? maybe we all were taught wrong and blue is really red? and red is really green and black is really white.
Hard to say. I think zillion is to represent and unspeakable infinity number to mean unknown HIGH infinity number.

From the Math Forum @Drexel:
"A googol is a 1 with a hundred zeroes behind it. We can write a googol using exponents by saying a googol is 10^100.
The biggest named number that we know is googolplex, ten to the googol power, or (10)^(10^100). That's written as a one followed by googol zeroes."
Thousand 1,000 10^3
Million 1,000,000 10^6
Billion 1,000,000,000 10^9
Trillion 1,000,000,000,000 10^12
Quadrillion 1,000,000,000,000,000 10^15
Quintillion 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 10^18 |

What's a gazillion then? Me mum used to use that a lot, like:
"I told you kids a gazillion times..."
Cheers
Mick
PS Me mum was not a mathematician, BTW. | |
