I feel sorry for the Australians
http://www.csmonitor.com/2002/1018/p08s02-woap.html
This is the first I've heard of this. Haven't seen it on the news at all, guess everyone's too busy worrying about North Korea. *sigh*
This is one screwed up world we live in. Hang tough guys. Good will eventually overtake evil, as it always has in the end. I hope all our Australian friends are okay down there, in a land I once consitered the least problematic place to live, I guess no one is safe from terrorism now.
On another note, remember that these terrorists caused the atack, not Australia, not the US, not the UN, nor anyone else.
Good luck to all, and godspeed.

Terrorism still hasn't reached Australian shores in a big way yet - just a place where Australian's used to go to have fun. I say used to go, because it's likely Bali will be a ghetto for a while yet as far as Australian tourists are concerned.
By no fault of the Indonesian governemnt or the majority of it's citizens, either. Just a small bunch of malcontenets, by the looks.
Nobody wins with terrorism, IMO.
Thanks for the thread, Redwolf.
Cheers
Mick

hmm this things been all over the news... *shrug* Quote: |
"To those people who believe you can escape attacks of this kind by saying nothing when evil occurs, by doing nothing when evil occurs, not only is that moral bankruptcy, but it's also wrong. Retreat from the war against terrorism will not purchase immunity."
| I agree with that totally.... Australians? your thoughts?
Do you feel that you should just stay out and watch from a distance as not to 'draw attention' ??

Haven't seen it on the news at all,
| An all 7 station here covered sep 11 and ran sep 11 special this sep 11.
EDIT: Vas, Trying explaining that to the australians who died in someone elses war. I'm not saying we were targeted because of our back of the US but i'm sure it played a huge part.
On another note - Generally - the people in my grade blame our involvemnt in the war on terrorism and most think we should have never gone into it in the first place - i kind of agree.

so you think if australia kept to themselves they could of forever avoided all terrorism?! that they'd never attack you?
ok ...
if you see your friend getting the piss beaten out of him
Do you walk away? thinking (hoping) the bully never comes after you?
granted this is much more complex, but the idea is the same.

Nobody can avoid terrorism, IMO. Terrorists do not care that other people may be killed in their attacks. Australians were killed in NYC. Australians were killed in Jerusalem. Those were both before we pledged to fight terrorism.
The pledge by the Australian government to fight terrorism MAY bring us to the terrorists attention, and therfore make us a more specific target. BUT.. if we don't fight againist terrorism, then more Australian and others will die, simply because terrorists do not care who they kill.
So, we need to fight agianst them.
IMO
Cheers
