TechIMO members being banned?
Hey guys,
I was wondering... the last two days I have been perusing the TechIMO forum archives and have seen 2 members with the description "banned". Are these people really banned from the forums? One of them almost had 4000 posts and the other one had nearly 200. If so, how do you get banned, and how would you go about getting unbanned? Who decides who should get banned? I was trying to find the reason in a FAQ or something, but couldn't find one. It would just be a shame if I did something un-intentionally and got banned as well. Thanks!

[edit] sorry guys, I didn't mean to double post...

What you did was post in one forum then post in this one. I'm the one that moved your other post to this forum. In the future PM or email a Mod to move your thread, do not create another one.
thanks

Surreal,
I was wondering about that... thx for the heads-up. I will keep that in mind when posting next time!

IMO Mike was unjustly banned. Take a look at this thread and judge for yourself.

I have to agree; if your name is "hog", it's not an insult to call you "pig".
There's nothing inherently insulting, for example, about the word "Jew", though it's always offensive to use it as a verb.
The writer Kinky Friedman used to have a band called "The Texas Jewboys". The name was his own choice, and I'm sure that if anyone called him "Jewboy," he wouldn't mind.
That's not to say it would be okay to call me "Jewboy".
But Warthog's name is his own choice, and despite his derivation of it from a piece of armament, his choice of avatar is decidedly porcine. If he doesn't mind a "Soooeee!" now and then, that should be dispositive.
Banning Mike looks unjust (and, perhaps, a little pigheaded) to me.

The other thread on this topic is closed. I do not understand why. I do agree with Theo's observations and also realize other issues were involved with Mike.
All I can say to all members is be very careful in what you post lest it violate rules.
And, while I think Mike lost out in being banned, I also think this Forum lost a very active, intelligent and well-liked member and that is indeed unfortunate.
As I was speaking with Knothead yesterday, what's done is done. If banned, no person with any self respect will apologize and request to come back. So there's no point in expecting Mike to do this.
Probably better to look to the future and to be aware of this unfortunate incident and hope it doesn't happen again.
In my opinion, this has not been a good thing for the Forum.

Get over it.....Whats done is done.....If you honestly feel like it was "unjustified" take it up in private with the owner of the board...Or just leave yourself....

Yeah I've heard just about enough...I'm closing this thread immediately.
Hmmm...I keep getting an error message that says I'm not a moderator and to keep dreaming. |
