Strict muslims and "unclean," dog-ownership
I have never heard of this, Can anyone enlighten me as to why dogs (long-legged, medium-legged, and short-legged) are unclean?? http://news.excite.com/odd/article/i...2|reuters.html
Quote " While canines are reviled by strict Muslims for being "unclean," dog-ownership has increased in Iran in recent years especially among well-to-do, Westernized Iranians."

Thanks club med, I thought I was fairly well read but I guess not.
If the Qur'an says that the dogs are allowed, how is it that someone like Gholamreza Hassani(who is an IMAM) insist that dogs should be desroyed? My interpretation.
And where did he get the idea that dogs were unclean if the Qur'an says nothing about them??

To answer your questions:
Were the 600 Catholic priests accused of raping and molesting children acting according to the teachings of Christianity and the Bible?.
And yet they were 'Priests'. But only by name, not by deeds.
Same applies to this case. An Imam by name, but lacking knowledge in reality.
That is why Islam encourages the believers to think for themselves (granted not all do), lest they be swayed this way and that by the misguided and evil.

That helps a lot Clubmed. I was thinking that he had scripture to go by, not that he was off on his owm.
Thanks for helping me out.

| So basically Fatwahs and Sharian law edicts issued by Imams are just guidelines? |

| Did you pick that number out of the air? People who spread disinformation are hurting a good establishment. I am not Catholic, but I will defend them and say that there were not 600 priests who were doing these awful things. And I believe the saying goes, those in glass houses should not throw stones...

I think the point to the thread is made in the reference, daveleau, surely the numbers are irrespective of whether they are 6 or 600 !
IMHO of course

I understand the point being made and I even agree with it, but to over-embelish at the expense of the Catholic church is wrong.
