Turned into collections....

<RANT>
Yes, I got a letter today stating that I have been turned into collections, for an account I have cancelled three times. On August 10th i received a bill to renew my pager service, an offer I declined. I called customer service and was assured that it was cancelled, I sat on the phone with the guy while he did it, and I was informed that I would be sent a $12 bill since I hadn't given them 30 days notice, I would have to pay for that month. I accepted that and expected to see a $12 bill in the mail. Well, I receive ANOTHER bill for $211. So I make another call up to customer service who informs me that i can ignore that bill, a $12 bill will be sent to me. Well, I just so happen to reveice a THIRD $211 bill, along with a letter from a collections agency asking me to now pay them as my case has been turned over to them. Wonderful, now not only has this hit my credit, but I have to find the time to call both of these places during business hours and work this out. I can almost guarantee that, "They cannot find record of my cancellation" and are going to try to just bully me into paying this. That's not going to happen. I'll just have to call the collections agency, start paper documenting every conversation I have and talk to the legal services here.....
Why the hell do they feel the need to do this? I paid out the 1 year contract I signed. I did not sign a 2 year contract. I did not agree to pay a second year. They merely took it upon themselves to bill me for a second year. And now they turn me into collections because i chose not to take up their offer, and also informed them of that when my prior contract expired? Aah, if you ask me this is just bad business, they are expecting to make an extra $200 off of me by bullying me and never really cancelling. This is why i loathe signing contracts or using these services, they always tell you one thing and then do another. Then reassure it was a mistake, and keep doing the same crap. </RANT>

I wish you all the luck in the world. Dealing with companies like this you MUST get the CANCELLATION in WRITING.
So many companies feel they NEED TO *#(% their customers over.
Especially ones, like you, that wont be coming back.

AARRRRGG!

Yes they do have a hard time finding out what NO! means. I have a thing like this a while back. I hate it, they should just listen to the answer and deal.
TBC, good idea, get the names, of the people you're dealing with, as well as case #s, and so on.

Good luck

A good threat sometimes will turn the tide with the phone reps I've found

Get in touch with the big three credit reporting agencies right now and dispute the charge. I am going round and round with a *&^$& wireless provider because they re upped my service for a year without me saying it was OK. Some lawyerese bull***t in the fine print saying they will automatically renew every year unless they hear from you.. whatever...
Anyway, a collector calls wanting about 200 bucks, and I tell them "aint gonna happen", then they say well, the last months bill wasn't paid, it's like 21 bucks" OK I'll pay that...
Get off the phone and then they call back saying " My manager and I have reviewed the account, and it will have to be paid in full"
Umm, you gonna get 21 bucks, or you get nothing..
we will need full payment..

good luck, you get zero, do not call my house again, and I am calling the reporting agencies and disputing this right now.
So now, when I get a threatining letter from a collection agent, goes right thru "shreadator" with the rest of the junk mail..
If and when you apply for credit, and they ask what the glitch is, tell them what happened and it really shouldn't be held against you. Be sure to contact the reporting agencies soon.
Experian is one, there are a couple others that I can't think of at the moment..
