J.A.G. on TV
JAG is one of my favorites. any one else wondering about the background of Bud losing a leg ??? He has been on the show quite a while, there is no doubt this loss is real not faked. was he always with only one, or was he in an accident, and lost it and they worked it in to the plot, this seems the most logical to me. altho the logistics of this in a week is hardly posible.

Patrick Labyorteaux (Bud) still as both legs. I watched something on TV that was talking about this and they plan on keeping him on the show as a lawyer but gear him towards civilian life.
They use the same affects on him that they used on LT. Dan. They use a green stocking then they erase everything that color. I think they call it chronomonkey or something like that.

With what is out there on the web, I was not too awfully surprised to find this site dedicated to Bud: http://www.voy.com/
On the message board http://www.voy.com/31286/ they are saying it is faked.

Bud's Leg -- Stephanie, 21:27:44 10/01/02 Tue
How do they make Patrick look like his leg's gone or is he really an aputee?

Patrick will either have the leg erased through computer photoshop- or ususally he will just have it tied up behind his back. Fortunatley he is extrodinarily flexible. WIll give more detail later once the arc has completed for awhile. After all you should be watching the acting, not trying to decipher the special fx (NT) -- Duke, 02:17:35 10/02/02 Wed
LOL Duke--I like your answer. Anyway...Kip said he wears a green stocking on the "missing leg" and they erase the green when they are editing. He did a great job, didn't he? >sigh< (NT) -- Katherine, 11:29:14 10/02/02 Wed

Here's a spoiler from the original episode aired Sept. 10th.
Harm, Mac and Turner are aboard a carrier, while Harriet (Karri Turner) and Adm. Chegwidden are at JAG headquarters when they get the news: Lt. Roberts (Patrick Labyorteaux) is in critical condition after trying to save a child in a mine field in Afghanistan. The group is shocked to learn that Bud has lost a leg, but they're even more stunned to hear that he may not survive the trauma. While everyone waits for an update on Bud's condition, Mac and Harm disobey orders to remain aboard the carrier and rush to the shipboard hospital to be by Bud's side.
BTW, it's the only network TV I'll watch weekly. Any Donald Bellisario show is good, from Baa Baa Black sheep to Magnum PI, imho. He has a great pool of recurring actors to choose from who enjoy working with him. A very underrated producer.

Q. What images were actually CGI? Maybe the last shot where we saw PL (bud's real initals) with only one leg in the upper left corner and the limb in the lower right corner?
A. No, that was old fashioined dig a hole and stick your leg in it. The CGI generated images were for the most part limited to Harm's F-14 pulling in front of the missile.

Once he has rehab finished up and can walk with an artificial leg confidently, then they wont have to hide the real leg anymore...
