Anyone have cross country moving tips?
Looks like things have changed and I'm about to return to the lands of this country that grow grass and are green!
Oh boy! I'm excited! I'm moving to Pennsylvania!
I called a store I'm interested in transferring to and they wanted to know how soon I could get there. I'm going to interview this weekend with them. I'm nervous and excited and overwhelmed!
I thought I would have to wait a lot longer for this day to come because I was staying in UT for my son to finnish high school.
But he has decided he would get a better education down in LA (the schools here really do need some improvement UT is last in the country in spending per student) So he's going to live with his dad (a good thing, he has a good dad that loves him very much)
So I guess next week when I get back from PA it's time for moving boxes etc, then securing a uhaul.
I hope I'm lucky enough to find a house to rent this weekend too.
Wow things have sure changed this week! I was just going to see Fingers and now this! Whew!

Good luck Surreal
I have no idea what moving is like in the US. When we moved from the country to the city down here, we used a moving van and three strapping blokes, as we had a big piano amongst our furniture.
Most of the personal stuff we packed into boxes and moved in trailers. Was only a two hour drive. The hardest part was storing it in a small rental house while our new house was being built! We had all this stuff crammed into one tiny bedroom, wall to wall, you could barely open the door - and several recliners could only fit through the window!! The piano ended right inside the front door, as that is as far in as we could get it! But it was only for six months. We survived.
But my real question is: how are ya gonna keep the cows crunching during the move?? A small generator maybe??
Cheers
Mick

I do not know if you are cheap like me but Grocery stores and warehouses are great sources of boxes.
The 10 Most important moving tips.
1) pack everything up so it can't be broken
2) Put it on a truck efficiently
3) get directions to your destination
4) drive there ( fuel as required.)
5) don't hit fixed objects or other cars
6) if you get sleepy stop driving.
7) go to the bathroom as required.
8) stop when you get to the destination
9) unload everything
10) put it all where you want it.

Hi, when I had to move my Mom's things instead of throwing em away, I used a small company called minimoves. They worked out just fine. They work in an odd way, so you can check it out to see if this could work for you. It may make things VERY EASY!!!! http://www.minimoves.com/
Good Luck!

Yep mick the cows will be going to sleep for a while, probabley about 4 or 5 days. It should take 3 days to get there since it's about 2800 miles.
7) go to the bathroom as required. <<< the easy part! you mean every 100 miles!
10) put it all where you want it. <<<< the hard part! geeze I hate deciding where everything goes and then putting it there!

Congratulations!
I am an expert on moving. I have moved in and out of Pa several times as well as California, Illinois, and KY.
1) The best tip I can give you is to get rid of anyting and everything that you havent used in the past year (excluding PC parts). This will make packing, moving and unpacking so much easier.
2) If you are renting a truck: check rates online and over the phone on the big rental companies (Uhaul, Penske, Ryder, Budget) even if there is not one near you. Get the best prices (including mileage) on all combined services (car dolly) and then call Uhaul and tell them the lowest bid and they will beat it.
My last move from Pa to KY, I had prices that ranged from 400 - 600 dollars. Uhaul was the higest and they beat Penskies quote and got me under 400.00.
Also, from experience, if you have any problems or difficiculties with the equipment at all, make sure you let the company (not the agent) know and they will discount it further if not give it at no charge.

| It's the strangest thing,,, a week ago I got some huge trash bags from work and started going to town on the closets.
I decided I was sick of being a pack rat! Why? because you have all this crap incase you need it, but when you do need it, either you forgot you have it or worse you can't find it! I decided I was going mean and lean. I tossed 2 huge bags of stuff last weekend! And it felt good!
psssst,, even the computer parts are going. I have about 5 modems, and more of assorted cards.. sheesh, I don't even use a modem any more,.. they're going!
Attention..
surreal is going to return to the building of normalcy! and I'm really looking forward to it!

So, just checking you will offer these for sale/trade/free and not just "ditch" them.
There are still ppl in the US even that would appreciate them, I would guess, even if they are of no use/value to you.
IMO, anyway.
Cheers
