Are Humans Animals?
Okay, got into a discussion/argument with the wife about the whole veal thing that eventually turned into whether we should/should not be classified as an "animal". She believes that we are animals, I do not. What do you all think?
BTW, she is pressing me for proof

Yes, humans are animals. This was emphasized time and time again in the Biology AP Bio classes I took in school.

the 6 categories of every single living thing in the entire universe:
Plants
Animals
Prokaryotes (singled celled organisms with no nucleus)
Protists (bacteria)
Fugi (fungus, like mushrooms and stuff)
Viruses, viruses are not one of the kingdoms but they don't fit into any of the above so they sort of go into their own category.
that's why when a woman says "oh god you're such an animal" you respond "damn right" instead of "well i never!"

Yeah, I believe we are animals...much in the same light as brandon's answer.
I suppose it's due to my religious beliefs, but I don't believe we are "supposed" to be like other animals...I mean, we don't have hair that keeps us warm at all, I guess that could be proved wrong with evolution (we had hair 10000000000000000000 years ago...) but there can be no way to dispute the fact that in order to survive (to eat) we must use tools...our bodies cannot run fast enough to catch game and we have nothing to properly kill it with (teeth, claws...).

I always thought that an animal was an unadvanced species.Notr living in houses, driving cars, cooking food, ect.
Animals are the things I have for pets

Most of our city/district councils down under require you to have a licence/permit to keep animals in your yard. Since they don't ask me for a licence/permit for my wife or kids, I conclude they are not animals by THEIR definition (the councils).
But I agree under biology rules, human beings (homo sapiens) are animals.
Spiritually (under God's definition as I understand it) humans (mankind) are NOT animals. Kind of like the councils' definition.
Depends how you define it, I guess.
Cheers
