University Student Almost Killed by Computer

In a bizarre incident, an Elko NA student was testing Hardware in a field-test-- but what could turn into the first product liability case against Soft-ware-- was injured while working on a term paper.

Legal authorities are devided as to the ramifications of this. One refferred to the SW as "some..algorithm existing on a series of magnetic fields" but argued it should be held liable, nevertheless. "That doesn't give it the right to kill people." At issue is a legal Standard known as the Turing Test.

The student is expected to recover.

Will this lead to Malpractice Insurance for Programmers?

Yeah, at Northeast Nevada Ivy League College no less. They had a hell of a tiddly wink team. Won the NCAA TW tourney a couple years ago before they were slapped with recruiting violations.

A Shameless Plug

Hey, DooooG, you shouldn't be surprised!

Dunno if you saw it, but in The Further Adventures Of Harvey, P.I., you in fact develop an "animation program" (under the aegis of one of your [MANY] sub-companies, i.e. Digital DoooooG Dreams) which gets pirated by M$ and allows the Baron of Bloatware to FAX himself everywhere....

Although, in the story, you're not portayed as being so litigious....

Figured it was the least we could do.

die, mr. clipit!

I'm glad the culprit is behind bars - i just hope they don't allow him a phone call - he might escape over a modem line!

There wouldn't be time, think how bloated the software is, and how much is used by silly little things like that. It would surely take a while to transmit, and it would need all the office shared libraries and dlls too. Oh, and while there at it, they sould kill off fastfind.
