Washing Machine ratings

My washing machine appears to be on the end of its life span, leaking water from the rear left side.

Anyone have information that compares the various models?

Been thinking of a maytag.

Ck consumer reports out at the local library, they could probably help you out. I research and develop laundry detergents for a living, any questions I can help.. I would just suggest staying away from "resource saving" washers (front loaders especially).

But do get ones that keep energy levels low. Washers don't take that much, but if your dryer goes, consider this. You could get a natural gas dryer, but that might be just a bit....dangerous? *BOOM*

Stay away from Kitchen Aid too. Mine lasted less than 3 years.
Ya know I've also had the type you see that is the front load.
Sure it does save some water, but it doesn't get clothes that much cleaner (like they claim) and ain't worth the extra bux.

Check here.

Here is some more infor..

sears has a pretty good deal on a single unit. we just bought one under the name of frigidare, but sears has a kenmore available. we used to have two single units(electric dryer) but this all in one jobber is great!washer on the bottom and dryer on top. both capacities are larger than our old washer and dryer, much to mysuprise. and the price was great. i think we paid less than 800 for the unit. shopped around and couldnt find one (single unit with both washer and dryer) for less than 1200,one unit was 1900. frees up some space, too.

I like Maytag, I have had my Maytags for 6 years now and they have never been in need of a service call and running very good still.

Personally I won't purchase anything that is not a maytag for my washer/dryer.

We buy lots of washers in the lab I work at and Kenmores (actually made by Whirlpool), Maytags, and Whirlpools are all pretty durable.

Hi Detritus,
Why not use the front load washers? I have had one for almost 5 years with no problems. It uses less water and less soap that a top load washer. And it didnt cost so much either, it's a Maytag that cost 640.00 at my local Home Depot.
By the way CR says you should use a front load washer because of the lower water usage if you pay high rates for your water. Over time it will cost you less(sometimes a lot less) to run.
