I just saw that on the news. UNBELIEVABLE...Do you honestly think she should get that much money? She knew what would happen for smoking.

Total Bull stip.

Has she had the cancer for 30 years.

The warnings have been on the packs since 30 years ago.

When did she quit. Did she quit after the warnings came out.

*******Retracted. I miss read the article. She was not a heroin addict.*****

'The woman obviously did not care about risks. She was a heroin addict. That is pretty much universally accepted as dangerous to the nth degree.'

TWO WORDS "PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY"

This is something the liberal world has no concept of.

Even in cigarettes hey day they were known to cause at the very least Black lung.

From the article: Before Friday's verdict, the largest individual jury award against a tobacco company was $3 billion, won in June 2001 against Philip Morris U.S.A. by Richard Boeken, a former heroin addict with cancer who died in January of 2002. That award, however, was later reduced by a Superior Court judge to $100 million.
This ladies "award" will most likely be lessened as well...

Cap awards.

to 20 times salary (up to a maximum 1 million annual including 2% inflation adjustment) + medical. Of course larger settlements may be sought in an attempt to teach large corporations a lesson, lawyers may sue for more but the judgement will not be available to the plaintiff or lawyer. Such overages will be donated to US charities of the plaintiffs choice.

No awards. Smoking is voluntary. Did Philip Morris hold a gun to your head to start or to stop?

These people who smoke then sue to make money are low life- worse than amoeba. Like the critters that splot on your windshield on a hot summer evening on a highway.

See I agree with you shahani.

My statements were more geared toward general legal actions. Not these frivolous law suits.

Well, guys, **lights a cig** I think what happened here is that the court saw an opportunity to put the tobacco companies out of business.

I mean, 28 BILLION dollars? Even if it stuck, could they (the tobacco company) even PAY that and stay in business? This had nothing to do with this idiot woman and her lowlife, opportunistic attorney.

This is another story about Judicial abuse, with the abuse being aided and abetted by a self-appointed "god"-judge. Disgusting!
