Systems Watch Out For Those Deer...

I was driving home tonight and hit a deer going about 40mph. I'm fine physically, but my pride and joy, my 2002 BMW M3 is going to need major bodywork.

This (or any other incident involving any vehicle I own) has never happened to me before, so.. needless to say, I'm a little shaken..

I never saw the deer anywhere in the area, so I'm assuming he/she survived and ran off somewhere.

Creepy part is, I drove down the same road yesterday and thought, "I wonder what the chances are of someone hitting a deer on this road?".. My friend said she's just glad I'm okay. A guy we know died a few years ago when he hit a deer.. The deer flew up onto his hood, through his windshield and he bled to death..

I'm glad I have a place like this to vent this kind of crap..

Thank-You!!

~ Brandon

Consider yourself lucky. Deer can be dangerous if you're driving a low-slung vehicle (as you already seem to know). I've lived in areas that were thick with deer, and was always extra cautious. And I drive a 4X4! Thank your lucky stars it wasn't a cow or worse....a moose!

Since you're doing OK...how'd the deer fare?

Back a few years ago in my HIGH SCHOOL days... eh hum... I was riding with my friend and two other friends in a Ford Escort going about 50MPH and we hit a 12 point Buck. Scared me half to death. The strange thing about hitting deer... you never see them until your car is suddenly stopping and antifreeze is shooting out everywhere. It was like hitting an invisible brick wall. Needless to say it totalled the passenger side of the car (in which I was sitting). We got lucky because the deer came up over the car but did not hit the windshield (thank God). It is an eery thing to happen. She freaked out. Actually we all freaked out.
Anyway, Glad to hear YOU are ok Brandon. Sorry to hear about your car though..

I almost hit 2 last week. i was driving down a country road to my friends house and i come up over a hill. (this point i did the half intelegent thing and slowed beacuse you never know whats on the other side of a hill IE cops...) and bam theres this big brown thing on the left side ditch..... i'm thinking to my self what a big freakin' dog. then i look to the right.... theres on in the middle of the right side and one in the right ditch..... now beacuse i slowed myself before going over the hill and yelled really loudly at them i didn't hit them. the 2 over to the right kind of scampered back into the woodline. and i still remember what i was thinking when i saw them (i have never seen a deer before) i thought oh crap my mother is going to kill me (it was her car) and the air bag is going to break my face. but i didn't hit them and went the rest of the way at the speed limit.... shudders....

Brrr, I know what you mean. I was driving to my in-laws lake house in IA at about 9:00pm and I see this HUGE buck on the side of the road. If I had stopped I could have scratched its nose. Just got one of those feelings where all the blood drains from your body.

You'd think that they would run away from a big moving verhicle, but I read somewhere that evolution hasn't caught up to them yet and they don't recognize an automobile as a threat (which is the reason we end up plowing over little bunnies also).

Sucks about your car.

I got a 2002 Subaru Imprezza 2.5RS last October.

I drove to my fiances house the night I got it, only 15 miles away, never seen a deer on her road.

When I was returning home, a buck came out from the trees...and of course, my first thougt is "how many points...", DOH!

Long story short, new car, 8 hours old, $1500 damage.

It's hard to feel bad for somebody driving a 2002 BMW M3!

I hope all turns out well for your car, those are some sweet rides...

I plowed a deer in my Grandma's Caddy a loooong time ago, back when Lacs were like tanks.

May he rest in peace...and in my tummy!

Man, deer jerky is the best!!!
