In 1994 I founded SysOpt.com, and later, ResellerRatings.com. In 1999 after years of profitability in an effort to obtain more resources, I transferred the sites to EarthWeb and stayed on board as Editor-in-Chief. In Dec. 2000, EarthWeb transferred the sites to Internet.com, and I agreed to stay as Editor-in-Chief until Sept. 2001, when I was a casualty of budget reductions. - Scott Wainner

In short, after Internet.com aquired SysOpt, they cut the budget and the staff, and terminiated the employment of everyone on the SysOpt staff except the sites founder, Scott Wainner. Scott continued to do everything by himself and made numerous improvements to the site while working very long hours to continue to make SysOpt a great place for it's members. Internet.com either didn't notice, or didn't appreciate the effort and also effectively cut him out of the budget in September 2001, at which point, he created TechIMO. Unlike Inet.com, the overwhelming majority of the membership did apprieciate Scott and what he spent years creating, so most of the long-time members chose to follow him to his new site.

fluffycow,
You have found a great home here at TechIMO. I cannot remark about Sysopt, because I joined here after my husband clued me in (He was having so much fun, I HAD to find out why! LOL) about this place. The people here are wonderful. They encourage each other, and treat new members with the greatest respect. That is not to say, they do not have fun.
I knew very little about computers, other than to run a few programs, like graphic editors, and games. But, with the help of some very kind souls here, I am learing more and more every day.
This is why I stay here. It is the people.
