Make your voice heard! Be nice about it. Many stores now have that special printout that has all the info on it for returns. Maybe it's the stores fault for not including that ticket? Talk to the store manager politely. Do some research beforehand and namedrop the ceo or regional manager's name..... they will respond.... I call it my secret word!!! We've been havin probs with stores not wanting to sell an item at the price listed, "oh that's wrong". No, no, no.... just talk to a higher up and if you can make them understand, you can get a fair deal. There are consumer protection laws out there (they vary per state). BTW, was the original item charged, cuz cards have special protection too...
Sorry ya don't like ur shirt, guess we all have our own special likes and dislikes. I know I do........
best way out of a bad situation like this, save it for a gift to someone who would love it or donate it at it's retail price....(take pic and save tags)....

Sorry bout your situation Doc. I'd have exchanged it.

I remember working retail - and the 'powers that be' at the 'home office' had put this certain tool set on sale. Problem was, we only had 1 in stock - and it sold about 20min after the store opened.

It was like a month before Christmas - and we had no idea if we'd get more in before the holiday - so rainchecks were iffy.

So here I am - Mr. $5.50 an hour stock guy - and this absolutley irate lady - I offer her another tool set at the same deal (50% off) - and she screams at me (Screams!) this is false adverstising - I'm going to sue you! - at which point I turned and walked away from her - she followed me yelling at me - and I turned and told her that she needed to get an attorney - that shut her up - I could care less if she ever shopped there again, all the better if she shopped at our competitors.

You might try writing a letter to the store manager - explaining your experience, and saying how up to this point you've always enjoyed shopping at Penneys... blah, blah.. but this experience has left a bad taste in your mouth, and you are unsure if you will shop there again. - you never know.

Oh, but you are giving her work to do instead of just hanging around as many do in large dept. stores. And the store manager will get the message and hopefully react to it. The sales associate doen't get harmed in any way.

Yup. The clerks were just following "policy". One of the clerks probably made a few extra bucks on overtime to re-stock all that stuff.

The store had to pay them, and it was the store (& the store's manager, specifically) that I was ticked at. I had a reciept for that shirt too, but it was a present from my Mom & she'd bought it there over a month before.

The manager wouldn't exchange it because they didn't want to give refunds after 30 days. I said I'd take an exchange, or a store credit slip. The manager just said "sorry" and walked away.

Now in ten years, I'd probably bought $5000 worth of clothes at that store, and the shirt was only $25, so I could have just blown it off and walked away. Now I might have forced his hand. I could have yelled and screamed like some fish-wife. I could have made a big scene.

That's just not me.

What I did was take a little financial revenge on the store, and the manager, and he's the one who has to explain losses to the company. Not the clerks.
