Food A few addition FAQ's

Quote:
One of our policies has always been to treat each other with respect and dignity, and we do not allow obscene language. These policies for conduct are our top concern and will be enforced. No one will be allowed to disrespect, intimidate, bully, "flame" or otherwise degrade or post inflammatory remarks about or to another member for any reason. Any and all such posts which are seen to contain such violations should be reported immediately to a Moderator. – TechIMO FAQ
The purpose of this thread is not to replace the current FAQ, but rather to clarify some specific issues. This thread will be updated as the need arises, so members are encouraged to stop in frequently.
  • Threads regarding sensitive topics sometimes get heated, however, members are still expected to remain composed and respectful, even in topics they are passionate about.
  • Taunting and/or name calling are not acceptable for any reason, this goes for new members and more established members alike. Our forum contains both a email and Private Message subsystem, and members are expected to use these features to work out their personal differences in private, otherwise use the “Report this post to a moderator” link that appears in the lower right corner of every message.
  • Members shall not post any message nor start any thread, nor shall members quote the comments made by other members in different threads, for the purpose of calling undue attention to that members opinions, or to ridicule another member whether expressed or implied. This includes responding in kind to comments that are perceived to be inflammatory.
  • Posting material outside the stated topic (also known as thread crapping) is not permitted. Any message that distracts from the stated topic or causes the discussion to go off-topic should be avoided or ignored. Such messages are subject to removal.
Members that continue to post off topic or irrelevant remarks in threads may lose posting privileges.

*Additional notes:
- The mods do not have the time or resources to read every message, and probably some entire threads never get reviewed. Therefore, if anyone sees something that they think is inappropriate, please report the offense to the moderators. Do not assume something is acceptable because it hasn’t been addressed by a moderator yet, the forum rules are defined in the FAQ

- Although all members click on the button that says they have read and understood the rule for the forums, most probably haven’t. New members take notice of how the existing members behave, so we shouldn't be surprised when new members replicate the behavior of the more established members. For this reason all members are expected to keep their messages within the policy expressed in the FAQ, and expanded upon here.

- Moderators sometimes place warning in messages when the content requires editing. These comments serve not only as a warning to the offending poster, but also serve as a reminder to other members about what is and is not allowed. Members should never remove moderator comments from their messages unless previous permission has been obtained.

- TechIMO does not allow the use of "signatures" in the forums. "Sigs" add unnecessary clutter and distract from the topic. Members may manually type their name at the end of their messages if they choose, but the use of catch phrases, graphics, or hyperlinks as a signature is strictly prohibited.

- The "location field" in the user's profile should be used to indicate the member's actual geographic location, or it should be left blank. Due to some recent and past instances of members using the location field to display other material, some of which is not consistent with forum policy, all members are requested to use that field only for it's intended purpose, which is to indicate where they are from (their location).

*Note: TechIMO is primarily a tech support forum, so while we do have Community forum where members can discuss not-tech related topics, messages posted in that forum do not increase the members overall post count.

Using images in posts (added 10-06-2002)

Members may include images in their messages as long as the image is stored on their own site or web account, (or if advance permission has been granted by the host sites webmaster). Posting images that are stored on someone else's web space (hotlinking) is not permitted because it uses bandwidth from the hosting site's server. Any post that contains such "hotlinked" images will be edited or removed.

Private messages (added 11-15-2002)

The TechIMO forums have an internal private messaging system which members can use to share messages without having them visible to other members. Each member has storage for 120 messages, which is the combined total of all messages from the Inbox, Sent items, and any other custom folders the member has created. If the number of messages exceeds the allotment (120), an automated email message will be sent to the member informing them that their private message inbox is full. Until the member reduces the number of messages they are storing, any message sent to that member will be lost. It's the responsibility of each member to maintain their own private message folders. Members can determine how many PM's they have stored by looking at the bottom of the TechIMO Main Forum Index under the Private Messages section.

The TechIMO FAQ isn't that long or complicated, please take a few minutes to review the FAQ page.

The primary forum FAQ has been updated to clarify the rules governing contests involving prizes at TechIMO/ResellerRatings.

http://www.techimo.com/forum/misc.php?s=&action=faq

Quote:
  • You will not post for-profit personal referrals, advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, spam, solicitations, or contests involving prizes not pre-approved by the TechIMO.com staff. Any advertisement for a Member's business, website, affiliation or other association may be placed in the Member's Profile in the HomePage section only. Those seeking to advertise at TechIMO.com may contact the proper staff member for additional information.
  • Forum members interested in hosting a contest involving prizes must contact a moderator for approval before posting such an offer. TechIMO.com does not endorse forum contests, nor is TechIMO.com responsible for any contest that may be hosted by forum members, even if a contest has been pre-approved by the moderation staff.
Best Regards,
