What's the difference between a GED and HS diploma?

I was wondering if there is a difference, what do colleges look for? If I get my GED now I could still take some community college courses.
If you are in the IRC channel at all, you'll know that this is my Senior year of high school and new school 4 times bigger than my last one and I don't know if I will make it out of this year.

What's the difference between a GED and a diploma?
Thanks!

the GED is where ya go to class in the PM with a bunch of people who don't speak english at all! Other than that,...well!

I would stay in school if at all possible. I quit, and have regretted it since.

that's my .02 cents

'bout 4 years of school =)

Anyway... If your higher education track includes a stint in junior or community college I don't think a GED will hurt at all. Most JC's and CC's are pretty liberal when it comes to acceptance. Especially if they consider your circumstances. If the new school is really creating a tough time for you I suggest you apply for and take the GED test while at the same time attending HS. That is if you can do that. I dunno if there are other pre-req's for getting a GED other than passing the test.

If you take it and pass it while in HS you can get started right away on your JC/CC career. If you were planning on a 4 year university a GED may hurt your chances.

What about a couple of years of CC and then transfer to a 4 year?

yeah I agree with Gomer, if you're looking to go to a major university they may 'frown' upon you having GED and not a full high school diploma.
If you're just going into the job market, it also hurts because a high school diploma shows you're determined and you're willing to work for what you want.
Also shows that discipline is not as much of a factor...

as for your college question I always suggest a Jr or CC to atleast get your "generals" out of the way. Cheaper and less crowded. so basically get your associates degree at the jr or cc and then transfer to the big school.

That's what I was planning on doing Mntsnow. I was questioning whether or not a 4 year college would still look down upon a GED even after 2 years at a Jr or CC.
